'25 QB transfer prospects (Joey Aguilar)

Rocco was statically slightly better than Nico against a much worse slate of opponents last year. I would take him given the circumstances but don’t think we should trick ourselves into thinking he is gonna burn the woods down in the sec.
I wouldn't expect that. However, Rocco has more experience in D1 so that makes him a good option over Merk and Gmac at this point.

Also, his play style fits well with what Heupel wants. It would be exciting to see him in our offense.

Id imagine the first qb to enter with a ‘no contact’ tag would be our guy. Excluding nico of course

Robertson should be target #1

Rest are meh.
You don't like Becht? Come on...it's the spring transfer portal, not the '83 NFL Draft. Options are going to be limited. I'm with you on guys like Rizk, or some other garbage low-level backup, but Becht is about the ceiling we could hope for unless the clouds just part and a unicorn lands in our lap.

A fun stat.

A whopping 25% of pressures were turned into sacks against Nico. That's ridiculous. #78 out of 86 qualified QBs.

Becht's number was 10%, #9 among qualified QBs despite having half-a-second less to throw on average. Gotta think we'd see a lot less screens with a QB that can actually get the ball out.

Other QBs:
Robertson: 16%
Altmyer: 20%

I’m not sure Becht is good enough for us to make the playoffs again, but he’s certainly probably the best case scenario given the bind Nico has put us in.

People are going to have to give this staff some grace. There isn’t a lot of talent out there willing to uproot their lives this close to the new season.

Let’s hear everyone’s dream scenario before reality slaps us in the face. Mine is Becht.
Dream scenario? It’d have to be Klubinik. He’s the top returning QB in FBS. But for I’d be giddy with any of the Big 12 QBs frequently mentioned or Altmyer.

He almost took iowa state to the playoffs, imagine what he does here with a more qb friendly system and better weapons

I would like to see UT give Merk a chance. I mean he committed to us knowing that Nico was the plan. What better sign of solidarity than to reward current players with that kind of integrity.

Fair. But he played in a much weaker league. I’m just not sold. But, like I said, I’d be excited to have him. Beggars can’t be choosers right now. We just have to have a body.

Becht or Robertson definitely seem like the best options among the incumbent starters. Idk if we can pull a starter at this stage though.

Merk has a chance. He has every right to fight for the starting role.

However, it was never the plan to have him start this early in his career unless there was a major injury. I think the staff would like to get one more year under his belt developing before tossing him to the deep end.

Merk is good and I think we will see him start in the future, but he has to stay disciplined and continue to work hard to get there.

damn its getting really hard to defend Nico the more we analyze last year. I think we all gave him a lot of grace knowing he was young in a tough league, but now his image is tarnished every stat shows he was painfully mediocre.

Just read a little about Becht. I think he has the potential to be a good addition. Big 12 freshman of the year in 2023.
Threw for 25 tds and 8 rushing touchdowns last season. That’s a very solid season .
I like Becht because he has really good field sense. He was running for his life last year and was able to put up good numbers.

Watch the 23 minute compilation of incomplete passes. I believe he embodies 'doesnt lose games, doesnt win them either.'

I'd say yes and no. His production was fairly mediocre, but the underlying numbers were pretty good for a true sophomore. My forward-looking projections really liked him for the next few years but I don't believe in his willingness to put in the work it'll take anymore.
