What about getting Kaidon Salter to come back? He was previously dismissed from here for off the field issues, but went to Liberty and went 13-0, then transferred to Colorado in December.

Personally not a believer in him. Beat up on bad competition. Then major drop off in productivity. Another guy I think is severely limited passing the ball. But at this point maybe that’s what we have to settle for.

I don’t like him or Haynes King but I trust Heup so if he thinks they can do it or if that’s who he chooses as a band-aid for one season then leggoo

I like this plan, assuming a high quality starter with experience just isn't available. QB is the biggest hole, but 2.4 million could bring in a lot of talent too.

If this is the case, seems like Tayven Jackson would be a pretty easy solution as a guy with experience, familiarity with the offense, and upside.

I’m with you on prioritizing spending elsewhere, but I think that any QB who is brought in to compete for starts this year will cost $2 million-ish. That’s just what guys cost these days—if not more.

To argue against myself for a minute: it may be that bringing in a QB helps attract other talent. You have to sell players on your plan to win, and a QB is a huge part of that. If a transfer is on the fence between two schools, a question mark under center may make another school more attractive. What do you think?

If we don’t get a good QB out of the portal, everyone needs to lower their season total wins to about 8. Merk isn’t the guy and GMac needs more time. They are VFLs though and I will always root for them.

Would Tennessee really tamper with other team's QBs after the Nico debacle? They would lose a lot of goodwill by going out and poaching some other team's QB and paying them more. Is that the message to send to the team?

I think we have to let Merklinger and Macintyre battle it out. Fans have already lowered expectations. Might as well see what we have in these young guys. I think we should be looking to add an experienced QB from a lower level.

Most qb's aren't going into the portal unless they have a destination ready. It may be technically "tampering" but it's the way things have to be done now. We don't have 2 game ready QBs.

Um, they will need to compete with Merk anyway. The staff would be insane to hand over the team to a QB without a competition. That would cause issues on the team. They got rid of 1 issue, and you want to start another.
