2025 Transfer Portal

I've not watched her play either, but I have saw many players that become the alpha on mediocre teams. The other 4 players defer to the one to shoot. It may still be their best option, and coach knows that and lets her or him take those contested shots.
Yeah. When you look at her 3pt% and FT% you can extrapolate that she is not a "bad shooter" but more likely take lots of bad shots. Poor shot selection. Possibly feeling like it's out of necessity. That's for our coaching staff to figure out.

Thats the right way to look at it in some respects but our worst game IMO was at Kentucky. I would have used that as an example. In other respects, maybe we just got beat. Maybe on that day UK was clicking, and we were off, Maybe Strack had her best game all year. If someone was watching USCe playing UCONN would they say you know that system Dawn runs can get you blown out. I mean IMO it's easy to say the system is at fault but it's still basketball with humans that have good games/days and not so good games/days, if you're winning over 20 and finishing in the Top 20 your system is working for your team. Whether it be a slower D oriented style using a lot of clock or whatever. There are numerous systems out there and some work well with the right personnel and some are missing a player or 2 to make a system work. In the end its still 5 on 5 basketball no different rules for different systems its basketball some are overthinking it. You try to assemble a team that fits your style of play. Get in the tournament with the goal to host and then it's about matchups.
Agree. Whatever system, approach, or gimmick you come with, it’s still going to come down to shooting, rebounding and keeping the other team from doing so.

But this particular system is “loud”, calls attention to itself with the hockey subbing, the high energy and the general chaos. So it’s always going to be out front.
Yep. That's why I used the example of the Georgia game, because it made the fact that the team's bodies were exhausted undeniably, painfully obvious to everyone who saw any of it. I literally cringed several times during that game. Ugh.
Esp true for players expecting to go straight into the draft next yr. Fall will be the beginning of a yr straight of high level playing for those who make a W roster. Legs cannot be risked.

I don't think we would really go into a season with Spearman and Latham as our only two big players would we? I have to think were going to pick up some big player that can help in there. Just seems unlikely to me that we would try to go into a season with just those two inside players.
There's more going on than you know,,,not worried

Thus far on the perimeter we have Cooper, Whitehorn, MIa and Mya Pauldo, Wynn, Prawl, Civil, Hurst, and Boyd. This player would make 10 seems like that would be the last guard we would want on the team.
Lol one would think. But I suspect there’s never going to be a last guard we want.
Again, people wigging out cause we haven't signed somebody. Our first portal players last year was Latham who committed on April 20th. We did alright last year, right?

It is April 12th.
Only wigging is those exaggerating this discussion. We’ve said a million times we know there’s time. We have confidence the staff is doing the best they can. The concern is that all the best players are getting taken quickly. Top players who would exactly fill our needs are packing onto teams in our league we’re already chasing. That’s concerning.

Do you know why Ohio State doesn’t do these mass substitutions and play a similar pressing style as well? I know they said it’s because they are in great shape and don't need to but I only watched them when they played us.

Not sure. They don’t seem to trap quite as aggressively as we do. Maybe that’s it.

I will say it’s entirely possible that it isn’t the “system “ at all that’s keeping the top transfers away. Maybe CKC doesn’t want them, deferring to the high school recruits, as DP sort of indicated. That would be an interesting decision.

The top schools can’t take everyone, we‘ll get the players after they get their rosters full, and get anything that’s left over

If a team beat the eventual National Champion and other ranked teams while finishing ranked in the Top 15 w/ a strong roster returning next season already ranked #8 by ESPN for next season how are they chasing all these teams in your mind? Because one season “the first in a system where they played close games against ranked teams and didn’t go undefeated?”
That’s crazy. It’s like Kentucky for instance a year ago didn’t even make the NCAA tourney. Last season, they made it after a season with a coach who basically brought experienced players from his former school and hosted in the NCAA tourney. They almost loss in Round 1 of the NCAA tourney to Liberty by the way before eventually getting put on in the Round of 32.
Point being, nobody knows what teams will be at the top at any point next season now in April. Majority of these signings via the portal are players with decent numbers from bad teams that everyone just because it’s the portal is making it sound like something it’s not. All of these scenarios are not going to pan out and that’s been proven year in and year out. So if the staff in Tennessee is doing their due diligence to find the right fits to their team it’s certainly a winning strategy that fans don’t have to approve.

Edit to say: Imagine convincing yourself as a poster on a message forum that Tennessee is waiting for teams to sign players. Tennessee has over 70% of its roster spots filled and was ranked #8 heading into the season by ESPN with this roster.

We've got players lined up that are really good players, but most of them are guards of perimeter players. We can easily fill up with players of that type that are really good. i think maybe we may be going four guard next season, maybe all five part of the game.

Over 1 thousand players are in the portal, so there’s plenty of post players for them to get. We won’t get the best players but I’m sure they will get players to fill out the roster if nothing else.

That’s great on offense but in the half court defense which was our Achilles…But apparently we have some super secret options that are not even out there on the transfer lists that keep dwindling daily so no worries here.

latham and spearman as our bigs (as of now) plus possibly signing a 5'7 guard who has poor shooting percentages...so we're going with super small ball in the SEC. and no pure shooters (yet).

she really needs to make something shake here. there's still time but i think we may be underestimating some of the shooting we lost in spear, darby and spencer...

Off the top of my head because all those teams beat us, some more than once. All had better league finishes and higher tourney seeding than us. That’s my definition of teams to chase. Yours obviously varies.

Remind me the good guards we’re still in on.

People on here said the twins are the shooters that will replace them, I just took their word for it.
