Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

I may be one of the original boomers (born in 1946), but definitely not a hippy or part of the peace generation, and I absolutely despise Trader Joe. Now with respect to what Marcus posted; I really like Kim Caldwell, so not completely old and crochety.

I have you pegged as more like one of the engineers that got us to the moon. My brother was born in '45 so you guys probably were at UT together (he is an ME, Fiji and a Torchbearer)

Glad youre back on more AM64. Missed your insights etc. I know your family situation dictates your free/VN time too. God bless you and yours bud. I agree with Star...anybody who is a regular here likely sees you in that light as well. Not an old Hippie.

a ME kinda guy..like Nico?

FF is all in a tizzy over a rumor Nico may be gone, that he skipped practice today over a new NIL contract. IF all of that is true then good riddance.

Hubbs said on the radio explicitly and in no uncertain terms that Nico wanting more money etc was complete BS and made up likely for clicks. This was yesterday about 10AM live on radio with Ramon Kayla and Will.

He also said that Nicos dad and his closest friend (uncle to Nico,) had both come out publicly and made statements that all is well with Nico.

Nico himself made a post on Instagram saying that he is very happy with his deal, very happy to be a VOL and in Knoxville etc and he is only concentrated on football. This is the only practice I can ever remember hearing about Nico missing...so I understand worry from the sports writers who are allowed to attend about 15 mins. I choose to believe Hubbs who is now the most knowledgeable VOLS fb insider, as well as part of Mike Keiths broadcast team on the VOL radio network and the family rather than other folks just trying to stir the pot and bring attention to themselves.

Nico has been a class act since he got here...even now as Michigans QB is set to make $6M this year which is 3x the reported $2M a year deal he has been on for a couple years. I think Nico has a breakout year in 2025 if the Oline and WRs can pull their weight. Regardless I think we see improvement even if those groups struggle a bit. I still think we go 9-3 this year though, setting up for a Championship run in 2026 which will be Nicos last year as a VOL as a RS Junior.
GO VOLS

Edit just to add LMAO

Am I missing something or have you not checked the news.

He was outstanding in HS. I agree...lots of fans have forgotten about Jake. He was an Elite 11 QB out of HS just like the other 3 top shelf QBs we have on campus/committed. Both AP and Hubbs have mentioned recently...without being asked about Jake...that since he has changed his throwing motion in the past year (grips the ball completely differently than he did his entire prior playing career) that the ball comes out of his hands with MUCH more power and better accuracy.

Jake will be the next starter after Nico IMO...and will start until he leaves. Whomever loses the competition between Gmac and the #1 QB coming in next year from HS likely transfers. The winner backs up Jake til he leaves. Time will surely tell.

Wonder how Hubbs will spin not knowing sh*t?

I have no animus towards Nico. I love UT football, but if I could make 500k more at Bama and UT doesn't match, then UT has my heart and Bama has my services.
The market for college QBs is what it is. I wish him success wherever he lands.

But would you still do it if Tennessee had risked the death penalty by going to bat against the NCAA for you? This isn’t about money nearly as mush as it is gratitude INO

I too don’t blame the guy for wanting to make the most he can. I think he misplayed his position and will ultimately cost himself a lot of money. We shall see

He is listening to his people. If his agent rec a renegotiation without an offer on the table from another school, his agent screwed him over.

Right and wrong way to handle things. He got his bite at the apple during the offseason to review market. He just realized he didnt have the leverage to hold the program hostage the day before the Spring Game....

Potentially a very poor long term financial decision from his family...
