Per Thamel: Heupel informed team this morning that Vols would move on from Nico.

By all accounts Nico was a great teammate and locker room guy. I think he wanted to be here, he is just trusting people who are making it more about themselves and their wants. Sad to see.
There are certain times in a game where the heart of your qb comes out= digging for that extra yard to make a first down, refusing to go down in a scramble, staying in the pocket knowing you're gonna take a hit but you gotta make that throw, I never saw that in Nico. He seemed to only be going thru the motions If he's ever on a winning team, it will be due to other players and not him

Good. UT and Heupel being adults and putting an end to this charade.

Nico is a fool for letting his glory seeking, money grubbing dad run his show. The absolutely worst possible look for Nico because it’s been an issue since he got here. Angling for more money, overtly sending out feelers to other coaches on their interest - IMO he should have been dismissed when that came out. I don’t think I’ve ever had as much contempt for a former VOL as I do for Nico and daddy - and that’s saying something given our history.

Something has to give with the NIL landscape. Players should be able to make money but this abomination is out of control. We helped create it but I don’t think most (including myself) thought it would get to this point, this fast. Foolish thinking.

I’m going out a little on a limb and saying with our moves/additions on the O line, the talent of this receiving corps and Merk having made big strides since last year (also hear he’s pretty cerebral kid), we may be very pleasantly surprised this season. Give me a “pretty good”, sharp qb with a lot of talent around him, I’ll take my chances with that all day.
I don't know that our OL will be that good being a lot of new guys and we are sure to lose some top talent at WR due to this fiasco. we are basically gonna put a freshman QB into the lions den again. I think this is going to be a hard reset year as Heupel figures out what is next.

I'm very glad for how much I criticized his play last year. you could tell his demeanor was not that of a leader. I got tons of hate for it but now I get to bask in the glow of knowing I was right all along and he really is a piece of California trash.

I'm proud of Heupel for telling him to GTFO. At least Tennessee got to go to the playoffs and be relevant for one year.

Now it's time for a hard reset.
Losing one player like him doesn't require a hard reset. Especially when there are capable guys in reserve

Talk about over playing your hand. What an absolute moron. Guarantee the NFL is watching. Dude damaged his brand big time with this.
He just needs one team to draft him. He’ll get selected and a chance to prove his worth on the field. Unfortunately, these issues don’t translate over to a siccesful career. If he goes to USC he will put up monster numbers and teams will thinks he’s the next one from Riley.

No matter how he played last year, he went 10-2 as a starter. And, the talent is there. He should receive market value. I don’t like it either but this is where things are heading.
What he eventually receives will be his market value, just not from Tennessee. Sellers and buyers are both free to decide -

Prediction: Tennessee gets a record number of targeting penalties if we ever face the punk in the future. And it will be worth it
I get it…but I think his dad overplayed a hand he didn’t have and may have screwed over his son in the process. I’m betting on a “Todd Marinovich” type documentary coming out one day where we find out Nico didn’t really want to leave UT, but couldn’t tell his dad no.

I saw it in the Ohio State game.

Fully prepared for Nico to wind up at Oregon. They are the only school that I think would have no issues doubling his pay and not blinking
If the rumors are true. Oregon coach is the one that told coach hype that Nico was sniffing for a deal. Not sure Oregon wants the distraction that will follow not was Nico playing like Tua lighting it up and worth the risk.
