USA Today......"Time to let him go"

The transfer portal in its current format has been the biggest contributor to the exponential increase in NIL. If there was a consequence like sitting out a year for transfers, you wouldn't see this craziness.
Big money always creates craziness. ALWAYS

Keep thinking that. That answer has been accepted by fans with no merit behind it. Kids were well compensated for their work on the field prior to NIL. The participation trophy generation is now in control.
Yes. They are. And the transfers are what gave them the leverage. No transfers…no leverage.

Agreed. Right now the narrative I have seen in the media has been on Tennessee's side in this. No reason to change that with getting in the mud. The media will do that for us.
This is a perfect segment for the media to cover why the NIL is killing college sports. We have a high profile hold out. Kid signed out of HS because of CA high school rules for NIL form 3 year deal of 8M. He was paid a sum the day he signed and now is requesting more. His University fought the NCAA to protect him and this is how he shows appreciation.

The craziness doesn’t matter. It’s the ability to act on it the first time you don’t get your way. No unlimited transfers…no leverage. I personally would be in favor of these kids getting a little more if they eliminate the free transfer.

Cut him loose. But disagree about this equating to an extension for JH. Nico was his hand picked guy. He chose poorly. I think he’s a great coach and I’m glad that we have him, but zero reason for him to benefit from this.
Heupel didn’t choose poorly. Nico and family chose poorly. This is out of control. Coaches have to take a stand.

No money, no transfers. Honestly can’t you see that. Without money what is the incentive to transfer, except the desire to gain more playing time. This is all money driven, to claim otherwise is just naive

He did choose poorly. He chose Nico coming off of a historic season, with a collective that was willing to offer historic money. We could have realistically had any QB in that class other than Arch or Nelson. And we dodged a bullet with Nelson. He chose poorly in picking Nico. Culture fit and character are part of a program leader. Nico isn’t it.

I am not there yet. He can still salvage this, but needs to apologize for the distraction this caused and show up at the O&W game. I have no problem with a kid trying to get more money, just the way this was done and the timing is just wrong.

No money, no transfers. What would be the incentive. The occasional family issue, more playing time, leaving with the coach. That kind of thing. Otherwise, as it is now the transfers are all about getting paid more, and that’s all

Agree. He's not been a good evaluater of QBs so far. He brought in JM3 and played him over HH. Granted I have total respect for JM3 who is a true VFL in my mind. Wish him success and have forgiven his running out of bounds in that OM game. Then Heupel brings in Nico ... and pays him the biggest NIL ever ... total FAILURE is what the history books will read on this.

The money has been there since the car dealer my Dad worked for met Conredge Holloway with a new Cadillac. The difference is that Conredge couldn’t get back on the plane if he didn’t like the color. I have a finance background and have been exposed to SEC money since I was 3 years old. I’m not naive.

In those days you couldn’t openly barter for some other team to give you 2 Cadillacs.

When was Nico ever a culture issue and not a leader up until yesterday?

Teammates being bitter isn’t a reflection on his leadership. Give a specific happening.
Didn’t say they were bitter, although some are I’m sure, my statement was in reference to his teammates knowing better than anyone else on the planet his leadership or lack thereof

Your arguments are sound except paying sets a precedent for every player to hold out. The team just becomes a group of individuals. You have to set a standard and let him go.
Not to mention the fact if you bring him back what damage has been done to the fan base.. Time to move on

Heupel’s first two QB’s are in the NFL right now. Sounds like a pretty good evaluator.

Also, Nico didn’t run out of bounds against OM. UT didn’t play OM.
