Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I hate this so much. We haven’t seen this level of success in two decades with the NcAA breathing down our necks and CFB changing drastically and people are ready to can the coach because he isn’t recruiting in the top 3.

I remember not long ago we were saying we would never be spoiled again like Dawg and Bama fans and here we are.

I like Heup. He wins. He isn’t a d-bag. He’s super smart.

Is he perfect? Is he Saban? No, but who would we get that is? If he keeps us in the top half of the SEC with runs like the last few years, let’s ride with him. He will get his due.
I like Heup. He seems like a genuine guy. But at the end of the day, we're not looking for our own Mark Richt. We're looking for our Nick Saban or Kirby Smart. I would love for Heupel to quiet the doubts I have. I'd love to see him bring championships to Tennessee. But I can't say I'm content with being mediocre. I want to see another natty.

About to say something very unpopular. Let me preface it by saying this is not because of the Nico situation.

I'm beginning to doubt Heupel. Again, not because Nico is trying to extort more money. I keep looking at the bigger picture of roster construction and recruiting, and I'm not sure he's done well enough at either to take us to the next level. I want to believe he can, but the doubt is there. Not wanting to fire him. He's our coach at least until probation is over. But when probation is over, and all the hand cuffs are off, I think he'll really need to prove himself. 2022 created a lot of high hopes for me, but we've not seen the same QB play since. And both Milton and Nico were picked by Heupel, whereas Hooker fell into his lap.
it's the coaching staff. we all for the dance, but can't ever close the deal. rarely if ever.

no excuses not to have top 10 classes.

I read it, but I’m not sure HCs can be blamed for their rosters in this era. Collectives and players themselves, and the competition, may have more to do with it. I can understand a desire to have a general manager and more structure around player acquisition in this era.
Money 💰 ain't the HCs purview...if it was, I'm pretty sure Heup would have bought 3 5* WRs over the winter.

We simply don't have the money to burn that OSU and a few others have.

See, this is why I have Yukon Cornelius on speed dial, it"s your a$$, now, Yeti

For real: no good update. He’s reporting the same thing everyone else Has been. He’s not talking to anyone, locker room is pissed, university is ready to move on, essentially what we all know. But I did learn there’s a family compound in North Knox and he also apparently has no friends on the team 🤷‍♂️
Who knows if the friends stuff is true, but this should unite the team as long as MercSlinger can step up.

What if Heup feels Merk isn’t ready
You're absolutely right but he's had as much time to learn things as Nico did before starting. If he doesn't trust him to step up when he's "next man up" then idk why Merk would hang around especially with us bringing another highly touted QB in next year.

It's a tough situation, going to have to have a QB3 though. If we get another QB, they'll have less time to learn as well. Who knows...

This is so brilliant...

Let's just get it over with and fire him so we can get back to 5 win seasons since 10s ain't good enough for us.

We deserve to go back to the dregs if that 🦬💩 is the way we are going to do things.

He has already proved himself to me...that he can win in different ways with different rosters.

He has won big with VASTLY outmanned rosters...

I'm not gonna argue with you, because it's pointless. We all know how hard-headed you are. I like Josh Heupel. I support Josh Heupel. But to get us to the next level, there are definitely things he needs to improve. And the goal is national championships, not just being decent.

Smh...🤦‍♂️

Depends. If he comes by himself a and apologizes that he let people around him talk their way into him making a mistake but he decided he’s his own man wants to be here, then apology accepted and move on. But that’s a big if
Nope. That ship has sailed. Nico can't be trusted. He has proved that.
