The math is pretty simple. If the coaches believe that Nico will take us to the playoffs again then you pay him. Otherwise, you let him go and just play the younger guys knowing that the 2025 ceiling is now lower. You run the risk of losing more skill players though which should be part of the calculation.

Yup. You get a longer leash with the fans because of the turnover and its a rebuild with 2 freshman QBs ahead of Faizon coming in.

Both #1 prospects.
Both came with a lot of drama.
Both (seemingly) left UT early.

I don’t know what’s up with Tenn and striking out on Top-5/10 recruits when they get here.

Only one I can think of in the last 20 years that just came in and dominated from the get go was Eric Berry.

I hope they figure it out, I’ve enjoyed watching him play. If not, I’m excited about the couple of other QB’s we have. Obviously would suck to break in a first year starting QB again.

Also, this is mostly solved if you just make contracts and require buyouts if a player transfers prior to the contract expiring.

It's indicative of the players currently having too much intraseason leverage which will get course corrected at some point.

I will say, the PR behind this is very damaging for Nico and his team. Whoever calling the shots couldn't imagine this level bad press behind these decisions.

Regardless, until/if he hits the portal, there is time to make this right. I'm going to wait and see what happens.

UT should be weighing all options at this point tho.

They're a bigger man than I if they give that squad a second chance. I think it would also be a fools errand to try and regroup after this.

Here's the thing. Nico already has a deal with another team. He wouldn't have done this without one. This has been in the works for a while. This shouldn't be the way it's done. Reflection of character IMO.

This is my thought as well. They were using Tennessee and another, possibly multiple, suitors against each other to drive prices.

I think Tennessee said enough, writings on the wall. You won't use us to negotiate your next deal. We already had a deal.

Either that or the Nico camp really is that stupid!

Not sure there is a way back from this one — besides winning every game this fall. If he rolls out there against UGA with <300 yards passing and no TDs…. YIKES. Pressure now is through the roof. Probably best he cuts bait now
