2025 Transfer Portal

Kim’s is a specialty system in many ways, reduced mins and stats just being one of them. Therefore it’s a given some will and some won’t desire to play in it. I’m sure the staff knows and is fine with it. Don’t think discussing it is “fanning the flames of catastrophe”. That seems way overwrought to me.

I’m surprised so many have forgotten the basic tenets of a fan forum. No we’re not coaches nor have inside knowledge. Yes some posters are going to be against, and for, everything that happens. Yes we’re going to criticize and disagree. Yep what we opine will have zero effects on what happens in real life. None of this has changed with the coaching change, nor should it.

I compare these forums to the conversations we have on the way to the car after the games. Only we want to chew over it a little more than the folks we went to the game with. Nothing more than that.

Right they will fit our four spot but the 5 spot seems like they are not addressing that at all. We got killed in the SEC with the bigger teams.
We would need another post if we got her for sure. She would be a nice player to have with her versatility and her ability to run the floor.

You are speaking from an individual perspective.
Did she play her entire career at Wisconsin? And did they have any success? Any signature wins? If not, I believe those numbers will drop to more of a player that’s your 2nd or 3rd option in the SEC.
I know clearly she’s a talented player. The reality is fans now with NIL and the transfer portal set unrealistic expectations. Just as some are opposed to playing or as that say relying on freshmen you can’t always build your roster by adding transfers that view themselves as the #1 option on your roster when you have experienced players returning. For instance, I’m glad Cotie McMahon went to Ole Miss because she views herself as the #1 option. We just saw Lazaria Spearman, Talaysia Cooper, and Ruby Whitehorn go to Ohio State and beat Ohio State as McMahon’s team. I don’t know if I would want Cotie taking the ball out of either of those players hand. So if the fit isn’t right a good head coach isn’t going to take the risk.
Back to Williams, I don’t see her coming to Tennessee. Not that big of a deal seeing as this player doesn’t really fit the system. She’s more of post player that needs to be in a system that plays through the post.
She was successful the team wasn't because they were weak at three other positions and had no three point game. She went for 20 ppg and 9.8 rebounds almost a double double and was really almost half their offense. We probably won't get her cause a lot of other teams seems to have the inside track. Smith would be very good in our system she had some issues at LSU that would have to be addressed if we added her. Latham 20 and Smith 20 fills the four spot totally and solidly.

Also appears Williams is likely headed to UConn. Any player those two schools want they’re gonna get. A bummer, would have loved to see Williams in the SEC.

It’s impossible to watch them in the Big East because they just crush awful teams all conference.
I knew that already been a lot of rumors to that effect. That is why they are such great coaches they get those bigs that can play makes them great. Guards are the helpers to a title bigs are the ones that make it happen.

With all the roster space we have created I believe we have a plan. The portal is almost identical to freshmen recruiting now you have about 50 to 100 top players worth going after and your fighting for 3 or 4 of them. The portal actually had 8 to 10 post players where the freshman 2025 100 had about 2 or 3. Still out there are Okot, Weimar, Williams, Cunningham and a couple more we could get one it helps two would be a huge victory since around 100 teams are going for the same 6 players.
Do u agree with the posters that said we don’t want any portal players, because they just want to recruit high school players?

Still comes down to rebounding and defense no matter the system. Guards can't stop big power players. Especially when a lot of teams have comparable guards.

Did a great job beating them out for freshmen, but not faring well in the portal. I think someone said we were looking to build with freshmen and I'm ok with that if we can get another strong class. Next year won't be any better than this last one however cause two or three SEC teams are getting a lot stronger in the portal.

She said at the last press that we wanted some players out of the portal. The ones we needed are quickly disappearing so evidently not able to get them for what ever reason.

If we don't get a couple of bigs that fit our needs we're going be middle of the pack again next year. I hope the freshman pan out at the next level. Some will and some want. there's no Parker or Holtsclaw walking in with them. And could definitely use a 3 point specialist. Just because a really good player is on a bad team don't mean they wouldn't help our team tremendously. GLV

You can build with freshman but they aren’t guaranteed to stay, look at all the freshman transferring around the country.

Totally true it is no different than any other player. Watching the next couple weeks cause not trying to be a whiner, but if this staff thinks they can compete in the SEC without a strong inside game are in for a rude awakening. There were like ten post players in the portal that I would consider helpful and looks like six of those are gone. So just watching to see how it ends and then easy to determine where we might be next season.

I have a question.
You pointed out that an incoming freshman won’t be a Holdsclaw or Parker to diminish their potential I guess.
Yet said that a player that has come from a losing or mediocre program with great statistics in turn could be a piece that helps the team tremendously.. so is the portal player yet to endure much winning on the collegiate stage the Holdsclaw or Parker walking in?

DP didn’t say that exactly . He indicated this staff is always going to prioritize fit over stats, which is probably a good idea in a specialty system. Also, he indicated this staff will prioritize development of high school recruits over importing established stars.

This is a bold strategy and swims against the current tide of just stacking the best players available, (of course always w an eye toward cultural fit). Kim and Co are certainly entitled to that approach. We’ll see how it works out.

It is a scary gamble, esp when we see other teams we were already behind just loading the f up. And I don’t see a thing wrong with discussing it as it unfolds. The hermetic protective bubble some want to wrap CKC in makes me wonder if they’re really as confident in her as they like to seem. I personally think she’s much stronger and more confident than that, and I’m sure couldn’t give two effs about inconsequential fan chatter.
