They can do that as well. But original AT&T phones worked fine for 50 years. New $1,000 phones don’t need to be paperweights after 4 or 5 years.

Verizon sent an email just last Thursday saying you can trade in any Apple, Google or Samsung phone (even old or broken) for a new one on Verizon.
