The point was that you are looking for any reason remotely plausible to rationalize not slapping a tariff on $3 billion worth of Russian goods.

Wasn’t that addressed a ways back? Same as with Iran and NK. Leaving the tariff off the list could be sending a message to Russia like “Why bother? We’re going to end all of the trading anyway.” Or it could be taking the opposite approach. “Stop the death annd destruction and we’ll give you a break while normalizing commerce.”

I really don’t see why there’s a need for Trump to show his hand to everybody anyway. The leftists get upset over every bit of it that is alluded to in the process.

I think it has more to do with the fact that we are heavily sanctioning them already. I don't see Russia off the list as inconsistent tbh, and I'm no fan of this tariff approach. Using the idea of Russia only plays into Trump's narrative of "Russia, Russia, Russia". It's not politically smart and libs should move on.

For those here who didn't read this article, the economist whose research Trump’s advisors are relying upon for their tariff scheme, he basically said they set the rates 4x too high, and that the Trump admin clearly doesn’t understand ****.

Nobody understands the calculations behind tariffs. I get UBS and Fisher Investments analysis and they've admitted they struggle to see the logic.

So... you want to pay $10,000 for a cell phone? You do understand that tariffs are a TAX that is paid by our citizens who import a Chinese product, right? This tax is then paid by YOU.

And yeah, **** those Chinese workers for making a great product that we love to buy and use!

If Chinese phones cost $10,000 guess what. Somebody friendly will crank them out for less. And before the that will take many, many years to transition - perhaps Apple can hold off on engineering them for obsolescence until the supply catches up.
