Ha.
Over the course of three years I tried to buy via the exchange because my company was too small to cover insurance for the employees, I went from $600/month, to $900/month, to $1250/month premiums with a $6000 deductible and only 60% co-insurance post-deductible and zero pharmacy coverage for EVERY SINGLE PLAN, from bronze to platinum... they were all identical for me. It was crapping money away to buy it, and I got penalized every year on my taxes because Obama was a piece of garbage that sold out to insurance companies and whoever else when he forced through that BS.
Because of Obamacare most normal employed people, especially young ones (as I was at the time), literally could not afford healthcare because we were subsidizing everyone else. A lot of bigger companies that could absorbed that extra cost, which is why your relatives were not affected. Anyone working for a smaller business got royally screwed.
Now, between myself and my employer, we're paying $1K/month for myself and my wife, and it's only that "low" because my boss works with our HR people to shop it between states literally every single year.
