Trade Wars and Tariffs

We were in an Idiocracy way before, so what is your plan? You have it all figured out, why not share with us your plan?
Hey, are you contractor? I have a tree that I need moved. You seem to be good at moving goalposts

Sounds like us in the late 1800's.

Not really and you know that.

Sounds like you are ok with Americans not having a future and getting $ 5 an hour.

I will give you another historical event if nothing was done, it is called the French Revolution or perhaps even the Great Depression which led to Fascism.

The best way to get the unemployed back to work is a major world war... that is what made Hitler popular.

You don't provide for your people, there will be violence. China was destroying the future of our younger generations. Action had to be taken, even if messy. Europe would be wise to follow our suit.

That’s a long way away and the mob is fickle.

It's why we keep digging the hole deeper, nobody wants to take a chance on change to suffer some short term inconvenience or discomfort on the chance things will get better. Now, please don't get me wrong. I don't know if what Trump is doing will work out for the better or not, it probably won't but at least he is trying to buck the status quo and effect some change. It's upsetting a lot of apple carts so doom and gloom will be all that we hear from the "experts" without giving his plan a chance nor will they offer alternatives other than return to the way it was.

What goalposts? What is your plan? I've been asking you for days. Everyone else is clearly a moron and you have it all figured out, what is this master plan?
What Joe and the Ho had going was pretty good. Could be tweaked here and there, but the economy was good and growing. Near full employment. Even with inflation, I did quite well during Biden's time in office.

Outside of oil and gas, we run a $30B trade surplus with Canada. What about the arrangement makes you think we are getting boned?

Do you have specific examples of how we're treated especially unfairly by the world?

Of course there are going to be countries that try to abuse trade relationships. Arguably, that's us right now. LOL. But the best policy is to remove all tariffs, regardless. That immediately helps domestic manufacturing by lowering the price of input goods. Other countries can make their prices artificially high and suffocate themselves. We should just focus on our own prosperity and not what others are doing. We can reduce red tape, streamline government/business interactions, make regulation more efficient (you know, all the stuff DOGE was going to do when Vivek was gonna be involved), etc. and get more manufacturing to return to the United States without jeopardizing the whole economy and many of our foreign relationships.

Bump @DC_Vol

Can you demonstrate how we are getting screwed by everyone? Genuinely curious

Reserve currency and its positive / negative affects to American is not something I understand.

It's the only thing propping up the value of our dollar. If it wasn't the worlds reserve currency it would be worth little more than the cloth it's printed on.

Well, not sure about ALL of that but let's say you are right for argument sake. Isn't that kind of the illusion or lie? Meaning, do you think printing money forever is going to work?

That doesn't make sense. Our money would not be an accpetable medium of exchange if it wasn't the reserve currency? If true, how do other countries with paper money (that doesn't function as reserve currency) do it?

So effing dumb. If I, Poland Springs, was charging $2 a bottle and my foreign competition now has to charge $3 a bottle because of tariffs, does Lutnick really believe I'm going to stay at $2 because "America First"? No, Poland Springs will raise its prices too because there's now less competition. This isn't hard.

They're money is tied to how many US dollars they hold.

Read the Creature from Jekel Island.

Okay so what is your plan? What you suggest is less competition because the American manufacturer goes out of business.

Its so dumb but you don't post a plan.

Maybe we should kill the tariifs, take the $6 trillion in planned tax cuts and cut it in half, and use the other $3 trillion to subsidize factory building here.

I watched him on CNBC this morning. Simply put, something is wrong with him.

We have the buildings, the key is labor rates. Unless Americans are willing to take $ 5 per hour for manufacturing work, we are not going to be able to compete with China or India. Now our equipment is aging and that is a problem that we could invest into.

EDIT: The reason that I don't like the way Trump is doing it is that we need to collaborate. USA can't do it alone. We need Canada, Japan, EU, South Korea, etc. We should isolate those markets away from BRICS which are the low cost threats and focus on the future of our generations. All those nations are suffering similar threats to USA. My fear is that you got governments in some of those nations that are outright complacent and don't care about the future of their people or even worse bought by the Chinese.
