The Atlanta Braves

Probably a bad sign you did a bad job building the bullpen when you had to DFA two relievers in five games
Agreed.

One would have thought AA learned his lesson of skimping on the BP after the disaster of 2019 where he had to acquire like 4 relievers at the deadline and Puke Jackson blew like 10 saves before the AS Break.

I guess not.

"Tanner Scott didn't give us financial flexibility." - AA (probably)

Has it ever been articulated from the FO what the "flexibility" will be used for?
I still don't understand how we were allegedly about to sign Verlander AND Hoffman before medicals and were linked to Scott, but somehow we didn't have any money to improve the BP after signing Profar?

Somebody is tightening the purse strings. Either AA has money in the budget (despite making claims to the contrary) and isn't spending it, or he's getting his budget shrunk by corporate. And neither of them is going to come out and tell fans "We don't want to spend the money."

AA is relying on "we just our hitters to be healthy again." I've taken issue with this notion the whole time, even back to last season as it was occurring, but OK, at least you can make an argument for that. It was downright negligent for him to come into the season with the bullpen like this, even if all of our hitters were healthy and mashing last year. That's bad plan, bad outcome.

The longer time goes on, I pick up "smartest guy in the room" energy from him, and I think he's gun-shy from his Toronto experience. He also struck gold at the 2021 deadline and probably thinks he can continue to do that in the future.

By the way the Braves have $12.25M tied up on the payroll to Hector Neris, Luke Jackson, Evan White and David Fletcher

If this is true, then taking the $27M payroll hit for Jarred Kelenic last year has to be an all-time bad Braves move
It's possible (probable) that corporate doesn't operate with any sort of long-term plan for the Braves. They need to, say, make margins look better over the next 3 quarters, so they just take the money from the baseball team.

Even with all the gnashing of teeth on payroll, the fact this lineup has underperformed like they have is still inexcusable.

We’ve had two guys so far this season that try to work counts, see pitches, etc. and now one of them is suspended for 80 games. Marcell and Matt have both drawn some walks (Marcell has been pitched around several times) but by and large the bulk of the order goes up there with apparently no plan of attack and even if they can get into a favorable count, they fail to take advantage of it.
