2025 Transfer Portal Thread

I was going to highlight the top 100 guards that could be considered elite...and realized it's actually most the list BTO shared.

So here's the only guards not in the top 100 rankings (based on 247)

Point Guards:
Budd Clark
Jordan Marsh

Guards:
Donovan Atwell
Quante Berry
Gabriel Pozzato - listed as SF, but is top 25 so would be elite too
Sebastian Mack

both measurements listed are bigger than Gainey, no? I was looking at sports reference which has Chaz at 6’4” and lighter

I mean depends on who you go by...I usually trust school stats more than anywhere else...and Sports Reference has McKneely at 179lbs fwiw.

Either way I'd say he's basically the same size as Gainey/Chaz...for sure not a shorter SG like Santi was

Lots of ways to construct a team. We just need some balance. We need an inside presence to combat games like today when the outside shot wasn't falling. We need defenders, rebounders, and guys who can go get a bucket.

It just feels like in every one of our NCAAT losses, we've failed to combat an area of weakness due to a hole in a certain area that had been a concern all year, but finally reared it's head at the worst time.

We can't have zeroes like Milicic, Dubar, and as bad as I hate to say it, the player Cade Phillips became over the second half of the season. Those guys can't be significant-minute players for us to reach the next level if they are going to be the liabilities they were. Houston doesn't play a single player like that. Duke doesn't play a single player like that. Florida doesn't play a single player like that. Those 3 guys played 39 of 200 minutes, today, and contributed 3 points on 1-7 shooting and 9 rebs, 2 assts, and 2 TOs.
Cade is a dog---that dude played with injuries most of the year. I'm always amazed at how quick some people are to throw our players under the bus

PG = Gillespie is a no brainer, my next question is can we add someone like Budd Clark with 2 years left to work off the bench next season?
SG = McKneely is also a no brainer, again add another younger guy willing to play behind for a season
SF = we absolutely NEED a legit scoring option...someone that could potentially be the 2nd option behind Gillespie and take pressure off McKneely
PF/C = I think we're going to try and find at least 2 options...a stretch 4 type and then a legit big

I also think with frontcourt we won't be looking for projects...not with Brown coming in and JP still having 3 years left. We'll want some first year contributors to go with Felix and allow JP to get healthy

Good lord you drama queen. Me noting that he brought very little on offense is hardly throwing him under the bus. Yes, the injury slowed him down, which is why i said i hated to even mention him. Sorry I didn't spell it out for you in greater detail, but I doubt it would have mattered since you perceive anything but effusive praise as throwing players under the bus. Get real.

I'd be a bit surprised if we pursued a big man unless there is a belief that Estrella (rSO), Phillips (JR), or Okpara (SR) is out after the season ends. You add Dewayne Brown to that mix, as well. Someone with HA-H's stat line is going to expect sizeable minutes, I'd assume. I guess it's possible you convince him that JPE and Okpara work exclusively at the 5 spot and Brown (probably a 5, as well) is a year away.
Okpara is a junior

Edit: I misread the statement

I mean...lets be honest, if you're a good big then you don't see our roster and worry about minutes.

Felix returns, he played in 25.8 mpg this season with 7.1 ppg, 6.4 rpg, and 1.7 bpg. Only put up 5 shots a game
Cade returns, he played in 15 mpg this season with 4.6 ppg, 3.5 rpg, and 0.9 bpg. Only put up 3 shots a game
JP returns, only played in 3 games before having a season ending injury
Brown is an incoming true freshman with no college experience

If anything you should be licking your chops.

I think Brown will be redshirted and we take 1 portal big starter so we can keep Cade and Estrella coming off the bench. Estrella off the bench is a deadly weapon

You realize Abdul-Hakim is a guard right and only played in 12 games this year before he left the team in January...so he'd be more of a wing type here IF we went after him.
