2025 Transfer Portal Thread

I think he is a tad overrated defensively. He gets steals and makes flashy plays but there were times he got picked on because of size. There was also times he just couldn’t buy a basket.

Don’t want to hate on him at all, he is still a great player but maybe not the best fit at times with the rest of the roster. Needed more offense

I mean that's a subjective term... so no clue what you think overrated is compared to someone else.

I think ZZ is one of the best true PGs TN has ever had, but I also think his size was always a bit of a handicap. Bigger guards could shoot over him or back him down if isolated and he often couldn't get shots up over length.

BUT that makes the fact he was a career 11.3 ppg guy in the SEC and scored over 10 a game in 3 straight seasons in this league all the more impressive IMO.

I think Clayton is a lot closer to Knecht than Lanier. Clayton is arguably the best guard in college basketball right now. He’s at least a 2 level scorer but I’d argue a 3 level scorer as he can get to the rim pretty well. Lanier improved some at the dribble drive, but never really got where we needed him to be. Not to mention the intangibles that Clayton seemed to possess when the lights are brightest. He really may be the most clutch scorer in crunch time in basketball this season.

I would give you Houston as not having a Knecht/Clayton type.

Until the roster starts to take shape, it’s hard to give a real opinion on if I think we have someone who can fill that role or if there are enough supporting pieces to maybe offset it.

I wanted Walter 2 years ago...IMO he's the best scoring PG in the SEC and unlike Sears doesn't rely on getting to the FT line to get his. Also plays pretty damn good defense (those 2 years with Pitino helped a ton)

You know, I actually prefer Kaleb Banks to Alvaro. Alvaro's 3 pt percentage is hugely impressive, but Banks is no slouch -- actually averages more points per game and shoots 34% from 3. Not bad.

But Banks looks like a much better and longer defender.

After seeing how effective the long-armed bouncy forwards were for Houston yesterday, I feel like Banks gives Tennessee something it currently doesn't return.
Houston kinda reminded me of some of those Louisville teams back in the day. Long athletic and really physical.

Maryland HC leaving is kind of amazing for us...

They had a great season honestly, don't think Gillespie would leave if Willard was staying.

When he complained about the lack of NIL support at Maryland he was gone haha plus the AD left too.

Gainey is 6'3" 185lbs on ESPN, 6'4" 190lbs on UT website
both measurements listed are bigger than Gainey, no? I was looking at sports reference which has Chaz at 6’4” and lighter
