The difference is that the British deserved it back then and Telsa doesn't today. The weird framing was brought into this because of your ridiculous comparison.
The EITC was a government enterprise, but it had public shareholders, same as Tesla. They were all hurt because of an attack against their leadership, essentially.
Furthermore, tea, of course, was a whole big industry here in the United States, with people relying on it across the supply chain from wholesalers, to retailers and restaurants. EITC wasn't direct to consumer. All those people were hurt.
Your thesis is that the British deserved it, but they actually didn't all deserve it, and of course the colonials negatively affected by it didn't deserve it either.
