Enjoy it. Really.

He was a chronic liar. He went rogue. He put himself above the program. His recruiting included several low character players that couldn’t stay out of trouble. Barnes has proven that you can win here without the baggage. I hated how he was such an attention wh0re around Knoxville while Cuonzo was trying to salvage the mess. But other than those things, we all liked Bruce.

Pearl should be first call White makes if Rick retires. I personally don’t think Barnes is retiring. I don’t get the hate people have for Pearl. He did so much for community and loved it here. He put us on map and made a mistake that our weak administration could have also helped more with. His style of play is fun to watch as well. Would easily rather have him over Otzellberger or Oats.
I loved Pearl when he was here, but this has been discussed so much. When you lie (most likely) to your own boss, it won’t go well.

TJ Otzelberger would be a home run hire.

I just want to know why so many hate the guy, when he is main reason we got Barnes. Pearl single handedly got Pratt Pavillion and luxury boxes put in. I really don’t get the hostility that some have for a guy that loves it here.

Most of us had the ability to discern the difference between “Pearl will never coach here again” and “I hate Bruce Pearl” before leaving childhood.

It really is okay to like both coaches and appreciate what they did for our program.
That's just crazy talk. Makes to much sense.
You got to pick a side, man. Team Barnes or team Pearl.....there can be no middle ground.
That, and if you choose you have to either like or hate everything they do or say.
It's the only way to ensure there is absolutely no criticism or dissent.

Oh man, you asking for it making that statement.
I got crucified for saying the same thing.
Meh, it the truth, tho.

I truly hope its a few years down the road, but Grant McCasland is someone I hope White would make a go at. Texas Tech is a stepping stone job in football and basketball. The gap is about to get even larger between the Big 10/SEC and everyone else in every way financially as well. His salary is only middle of the pack in the Big 12 Millions less than Barnes makes. He could be a 20 year guy too. The improvement at North Texas was dramatic and immediate.

Making $4m with about a $12m buyout, born in Texas and played in Texas, not sure I see that as probable. Tech is also throwing around more money than anyone in football in this past portal class, so guessing they’ve got some money if needed.

From what I understand, Texas Tech is making a one time big play in NIL for football for next season. That it's not a permanent thing, as they expect revenue sharing to end or modify NIL. His buyout goes to 8 million in April. His new raise got him to 6th in the Big 12. He'd be 10th in the SEC at that salary. He may not come here but he's awfully good, and plays a nice brand of basketball.

I like him, don’t disagree on that at all, I just imagine that after another great year they’re likely willing to give him another raise, probably similar to Barnes range. Considering he’s a Texas lifer if money is remotely close I don’t see it being even a consideration.

Conversely, he's also the reason he got fired and the catalyst of Tennessee missing 6 of the next 7 NCAATs trying to dig ourselves out of the mess he made. So many forget that inconvenient truth when reminiscing their love affair with him.

Another spring, another discussion of the pipe dream of Bruce Pearl coaching at Tennessee again. Tale as old as time. I do admire a dreamer.
That might the case for some, but I think some of us just aren't on board with the Pearl hate.
For me it is more just a case of being thankful to him for growing our fanbase and helping put us on the map as a " New Blood" program. Also, helping us be in position to get a guy like Barnes.

I don't necessarily want him back here as coach. I don't think it is even in the realm of possibilities he would end up back here as a head coach.
That said, I wouldn't riot or anything if for some crazy reason he did end back up here.

The guy has been nothing but complimentary of our program since he left, and I believe in forgiveness/redemption. I have forgiven Bruce, and definitely don't harbor any hate for him or his son like some people here do.
