President Donald Trump - J.D. Vance Administration

So we're deporting "legal" immigrants now?

Last month, we terminated the legal status of 500k Haitans and 350k Venezuelans so that they are now illegal, and that's what he's referring to.

We're creating a problem to clean up. Imagine the hit on the economy if 1m people leave. Imagine how much it's going to cost to wrangle them all. For what?
Refugees???

So we’re not targeting “legal” immigrants for deportation then.

Yes, that's exactly what we're setting ourselves up to do.

I am only aware of the greencard or student visa holder / hamas supporter. I think he is married to a citizen.

But all those things are provisional wrt legal immigrant status.

My Aussie friends finally got approved for their green cards and they have a laundry list of stuff they can’t do or have to do to keep them.

It'll be a whole lot less the the government aid that was given to them

Trump was elected to fix illegal immigration. Legal immigrants have NEVER been a serious problem in America. Banishing 850,000 people with legal status does nothing to achieve this goal of fixing the illegal immigration problem. We're creating a bigger problem, in fact, by adding to their numbers.

I truly can't understand the right these days. Y'all would rather argue about that Trump has the power to do stupid things than call out horrible policy decisions.

We won’t go “wrangle” them all, doubt we even look for them. They’ll either leave on their own, get picked up for one reason or another or just live their lives as illegal immigrants have done for decades.

During the Biden administration they were granting asylum to damn near anyone including people with criminal records and known gang members.

I can gleefully imagine areas not ending up like many in Michigan and Minnesota that were refugee dumps.

But I was told the illegal immigration problem is the result of the problems of the legal immigration process, and that has to be fixed before we try to tackle the illegal immigration problem? Now there isn't a problem with the legal immigration process?

Didn't your screen scrape claim they're doing it because it's the easiest.. i.e. lowest hanging fruit?

Now, it'll be hard and expensive to "wrangle" them all up? You're not making sense.

Yup, been through that process. One of the big ones: not become a public charge. I had to guarantee to pay Uncle Sam back any benefits my wife received for up to five years, should we have separated or divorced.

Every latin country (that I have researched) requires some form of financial stability proof before entertaining a residency request from a US citizen, for the sole purpose of proving that we won't become a drain on their taxpayers.

A quick search for Venezuela is guaranteed $1200/mo of foreign sourced income.

Since Haiti was mentioned as hot button right now, a brief search for Haiti's requirements didn't show a monthly $ figure, but does state that proof of financial status is required:

ETA that almost every one I've seen is a large multiple of the country's federally posted minimum wage. That's one reason Americans like it; because wealth accumulation against exchange rate and the incomes of the target country mean we can live there at a fraction of the cost.

Now reverse that logic. How many immigrants from Latin America would have accumulated enough wealth, or passive income from outside the US, to meet the same type of criteria?

That’s exactly right - several of them only take high net worth foreigners as new residents.
