Agree, need to play the freshmen or risk losing them to the portal. It just seems to me that if you don’t prepare for the future you won’t have one.And the difference between a coach that preps a team for a playoff run and one that doesn’t. Karen Weekly never ceases to amaze. It’s difficult to understand how she would be worried about sweeping UCon because it is UCon while a coach like Gasso leaves a true freshman in that’s getting slightly beat up by South Carolina (a conference game, no doubt) in order to prepare another pitcher for the playoffs. OU may have been lucky to win that, and maybe because Landry wasn’t available, but the fact remains, Gasso was willing to take a conference loss to prepare for dividends later. It’s irksome to see Pickens having to throw more innings, especially against UCon. I could probably understand better if it were a conference game, but dadgum.
Antigua is a lock down SS on the baseball team, and has a much better batting avg than Faw, and yet he isn't the starter on the men's team because there's a better option when considering both offense and defense. Faw is a decent SS, but not nearly as good as Antigua imo, who is often inserted in late innings for his defensive play. All of softball is filled with starters who can't hit. Bella is needed for her defense. She has shown flashes of being a hitter but agree that she needs to hit better.
Vitello understands the churn and competition for playing time a little better than Weekly. He has a much deeper vat of talent. Playing time also represents an investment, a resource, which must be administered judiciously.Antigua is a lock down SS on the baseball team, and has a much better batting avg than Faw, and yet he isn't the starter on the men's team because there's a better option when considering both offense and defense. I personally think Mealer at SS and Des at 2B is the better option. It would seem that Vitello and Weekly perhaps view things differently.
You don’t play the freshman just to play them out of fear of losing them. The freshman are getting prepared weekly in practice throwing intersquad. This is the SEC not dads coaching trying to keep everyone happy. It’s a viscous cycle but as fan you should expect the pitching room to be a revolving door.Agree, need to play the freshmen or risk losing them to the portal. Vitello also has the luxury of numbers. Had a large fall roster and was able to cut down to his roster now with kids RS. What Weekly starts with in the fall is what she has in the spring.Vitello understands the churn and competition for playing time a little better than Weekly. He has a much deeper vat of talent. Fans are reaching with trying to make a stance. Antigua has 4 hits on the year a really nice player, not sure the much better batting avg. is an accurate assessment based on his limited time. Most softball fans will say Mealer/Des is a solid infield w/o zig zagging baseball into it.Antigua is a lock down SS on the baseball team, and has a much better batting avg than Faw, and yet he isn't the starter on the men's team because there's a better option when considering both offense and defense. Ok makes sense. LV's rallying in bottom of 6 and no one commenting. Just wondering. I got the BB game on the tv and watching but not looking very good at this time. SB was more interesting. No one on ignore.
You’ve got someone on ignore! I’m focused on BB. Down 30-39 at the half. BaseVols down 4-1, B4. Gators taking an ounce of flesh at the moment…
