Been "in the works" for weeks, but just announced.
Good for him........
I agree—good for him. It just takes me back when I see a guy who has already made his money wants to jump into a job that requires 18-hour days, 365 days per year.

Have you ever heard of sympathetic pain?

A dude I know got kicked in the thigh by a zebra. He stayed off the leg and when he woke up the next morning, the opposite leg was hurting in the same exact place he got kicked on the other side.

I wrecked a dirt bike once and rolled my ankle really bad. The next day my opposite ankle felt like it was the one that got rolled.

Our bodies are weird.

If refs called the game the way they do now Jordan would be the GOAT flopper. He was as cutthroat as anyone and would’ve taken full advantage of his status. The issue is how the game is called.
Maybe if his mentality changed with the times. Jordan. Would have thought it was beneath his talent to act that way. They didn't join up on teams and hated each other for the most part.

competition drove him. If he thought it gave the other team an edge, he’d do it too. But all those guys would think it beneath them at the time. The game and the way it’s called has changed that much. Then again prior to Jordan the NBA was having brawls every other game. No doubt some of those guys thought Jordan’s generation soft.

You know that's just hyperbole right. Obviously I didn't mean every other hitter. Just the overwhelming majority of stars who by the way were named in things like the Mitchell Report and the BALCO scandal. We can probably count on one hand the number of superstars from that era that didn't use steroids. One guy who I don't think used steroids was Griffey and at his best I would take over Bonds pre-steroids. But that's just my personal preference. If others think Bonds was better I wouldn't be offended.

With that said, at his best Bonds was in another stratosphere as a hitter. Would he have been at that good without steroids? Probably not. But I'm not gonna punish him for something most of his peers were also dabbling in.
He was never the best hitter. And he is a cheater. Just like Sosa, Canseco, McGuire and many others. See this is what you don’t get. The substances Bonds and others used weren’t around when Hank Aaron set the home run record. They were kit around when Ruth hit 60 home runs and drove in 158 RBIs. These substances were not around when Ty Cobb hit .400 in back to back years.

When you cheat it sullies the game of baseball. It forever tarnishes whatever you accomplished. Bonds deserves zero credit for whatever did after he started cheating. And he never deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. If Pete Rose can’t get in then neither should Bonds. Pretty sad that you have the attitude oh well because some other guys cheated donut was ok for Bonds. lol. Give me a break.

Was a no-doubt first ballot HOF (maybe the first ever unanimous selection since without the juice, he would’ve been eligible way before Mariano Rivera), but traded it for storied MLB records that were watered down in celebration and appreciation. Maybe someday he can be honest concerning if the barter was worth it.
Bonds cruises in standing up with well above 98%. Would always be a few writers who withheld their vote (cuz Bonds, cuz Baseball).

The great irony is that Skinny Barry makes a run at 600 HR & 600 SB, with 3k Hits and 2k RBI & Runs - and is likely viewed as the greatest all around position player ever.

I hope both he and Rocket can get to a place someday where they can talk about it.

For the ETSU grads. The Buccaneers got upset last night in the Southern Conference tournament by Wofford that leaves the door wide open for the Chattanooga Moccasins to win the tournament and get the NCAA bid.
Yeah, I watched that mess last night. Probably worst game ETSU played all year. They were up 24 to 14 at one point. Tied at 54 with 6 minutes left and only scored 6 more the rest of the way.

Prove every other hitter was using steroids just like Bonds. Also he wasn’t way better than all the other hitters.
Many, but not all were juicing. Impossible to know with any certainty who was clean.

I don’t necessarily buy his argument, but yea he was way better than all the others in that stretch.

His OPS+ numbers during that 4 year run were 250+
Not even Ruth & Gehrig put up numbers like that.

They’re not real, but the spread between him and the others were a veritable gulf.

Wdym bonds wasn’t way better than all the other hitters? He’s in a league of his own and it’s not that close, his ability to hit for power while limiting strikeouts and keeping such a high BA was insane. Probably would have had another 100HR if he didn’t have almost 700 IBB’s (double the guy in 2nd) he had something like 16 straight seasons with an OPS of 1.000 or better, that’s insane

The only ones that compare is guys like Ruth that played 100 years ago and it’ll always be impossible to truly compare them to modern day players

Baseball was more fun but yeah, agree.

How many pitchers were using also!

I hate cats. I’m sorry cat lovers. I used to love cats, until my parents. Long story. I’m a dog lover, and can’t wait until we get to ‘dogs of VNF’ offseason edition.
Hate is a strong word. And for all cats.

I've been bitten by a neighborhood dog as a young child, chased by another on foot. Attacked a number of times. I guess that would give me reason to be dislike dogs, but I truly believe dogs and cats tend to be products of their owners or backgrounds (and sometimes their background precedes their owner, who can only do their best).

I've also owned family dogs that were the best of boys. So, I by no means hold such a view and love both cats and dogs.

From what I've seen of cat owners that grew to dislike cats, is they weren't very good people themselves, nor did they understand (or take the time to learn) how to treat a cat. They aren't blindly loyal to their owner. They are more humanlike. You have to earn their trust and love. It is different for folks that only know dogs.

In the end, cats and dogs are amazing creatures and companions. The "bad ones" likely had terrible experiences, or owners at some point, and even many of them can be taught to love again, but only by folks willing to put in the time.

Good grief man, did you grow up in an alley?

Which also brings to mind some friends of ours that put under their wing a stray dog they picked up in Mexico/Baja.

He clearly had a bad past. Extremely defensive. It took years and tons of time with specialists for him to turn the corner. 5+ years so he could learn to trust outsiders. It was always sad to see, but his owners fully stood with him and cared for him. Just as he had really turned the corner, he had an unfortunate fall. He lost a leg. He has arthritis on top of it. They must spend thousands on him every year, but they've never given up on him and he's the sweetest dog ever now and is truly a good boy.

This was the 90s brotha. Dogs were just stuck outside all day and would hop their fences. All us kids riding our bikes to the Crestwood pool were just targets for the aggro dogs outs there 😅

Different times.

I grew up in the 80's. bra. We built forts, out of sticks. And dug holes, with shovels. Rode bikes, to the store. And we liked it! No roaming dogs.

While I agree when you cheat it tarnishes your accomplishments (to a certain degree) but take away the power numbers and his plate discipline, contact, defense were still all elite. Even without steroids hes a first ballot HoF he likely just doesn’t break the HR record (he did have 2500 less AB’s than Aaron tho)

In 2018, Tony Vitello's Vols hit 42 home runs in 56 games.

This year they have hit 42 home runs in 14 games. . .
That’s a seriously crazy stat line. It’s also incredible how much the teams have improved in their hitting abilities. Combined coaching development and talent level improvements.

It will be amazing if the homers keep coming in the SEC league games. After watching the games in Houston, it’s definitely possible. 🤠

Who thinks that the home run record AND the grand slam record will both fall?

Bonds was a great player no doubt and he didn’t need PEDs to get into the Hall of Fame.
