College Hoops Around The Country [TN opponents, RPI, others]

Do you think that if UT and UF play Saturday, that will be for the 1 seed or do you think UT would need to also win Sunday to jump UF?
I would think that would be the case, but everyone is telling me “no”.

The problem now is this is where a Michigan State has an argument if Tennessee were to not win the whole thing. So, it might be the case that Tennessee would jump Florida but the Spartans would jump both

I don’t think it would vault us over you either but it would be cool to see it play out so we know.

They have a 2 game in conference lead on us and a 2 game overall lead.
That potential game will not be for a #1 seed. If they win Saturday vs Ole Miss they got the #1 seed.
They were on the one seed ahead of Tennessee when the 16 were revealed if you remember.
We were always working from behind trying to get that #1 seed.
Tennessee needs Houston or Flordia to lose Saturday to even have a prayer.
If that happens, wouldn't hurt to have Michigan State lose to Michigan Sunday, also.

I don’t know if you mean in person, but UD Arena is a great place to see a game. Passionate fan base that fills the place night in and night out.one

The Don Donoher days. They have a very underrated basketball tradition. UD-Xavier games are just as intense as any other rivalry. I’d love to go to the First Four at some point.

Give it up. SDSU isn’t losing. As long as we win our last 2 it won’t matter. Houston might get a 1 but it won’t be at our expense.
Welp, buddy....San Diego State lost and their NET dropped to a 51.
Houston now has a quad 2 loss!
If they lose to Baylor tmrrrw, they ain't necessarily getting a #1 seed!

BTW, for all those saying that were saying the Ole Miss loss didn't kill us for a #1 seed because Flordia was probably getting a #1 seed anyways, what do you got to say now?
We would have got it over Houston with a win over Ole Miss and South Carolina.

They did. Of course they could move right back up being at 51 so we shall see. We definitely need help now. Baylor or Ole Miss needs to step up. Baylor is definitely the more likely of the 2 but you never know.

Mike Wilson said after our game there that the student section was by far the worst he’s ever experienced. Seems like they are continuing to live up to their reputation.
Funny thing is Kaufman-Renn is from my dad’s hometown, which is hostile to minorities. The joke was, “What do you call a black person in Sellersburg? A visitor.” How bad was the Illinois crowd that it stood out to him?

Interesting that both Bilas and Greenberg on Gameday were given the option to take Duke, Auburn, or the Field to win the national title. Both said they would take the Field, and Bilas even mentioned the Vols, Alabama, Florida, and others who could very well win the whole thing. Right now we are the 5th (tied w/Bama) betting choice behind Auburn, Duke, Houston, & Florida.

They also discussed the validity of getting rest by not winning the SEC Tourney. Jay Williams said you absolutely want to win every game if you're a player & coach, while the others agreed but also acknowledged a loss in the SECT doesn't hurt anyone.

I don’t recall the stat, but iirc it was a large % of national champions have won or made it to their conference tournament final

I think I’d take Duke/Auburn today just because I think 1 seeds have won 25 of the 40 tournaments since the field expanded in 1985. And I think the gap between the top 6 teams and the rest of the field is pretty large this year.

I doubt it. Nevada has a much lower Net than them, and that game is at home. UNLV ( the team that just beat SDSU) just got smoked by New Mexico, too.

they’re just in a tier by themselves this year
Houston is like 1B
Vols, Florida, Bama are tier 2
After that seems to drop off to a lot of ok teams

I ran the numbers on this and only 60% of national champs since 1979 either won their conference tournament or made the final.

Won tournament - 21 times
Lost tournament final - 6 times
Didn’t make final - 12 times
No conference tournament - 6 times

In the last ten tournaments it’s only 50%.

Winning your conference tourney is kind of a chicken or egg thing.

I think it just indicates you are a pretty good team. So naturally a high amount of NCAA winners also won their conference tournament.

The SEC being so historically deep this year, most games will just end up being coin flips. So I don’t think the SEC tournament will tell us much in this given year.

Watching Kentucky struggle to throw it in the ocean against some of the good teams they’ve played when they filled it up against us twice is just so frustrating lol.
