2025 Seed Watch Party Thread

To expand on Bama, we have the same number of Q1 wins as them, 9. But all 9 of their Q1 wins are Q1A whereas we have 6. They already have better metrics than us (KPI and SOR). If they notch a win at Auburn, they're right back in 1 seed discussions IMO.

It would be nice if both Mississippi St and Georgia won on Saturday and they both rose a few spots in the NET. That would give us 1-2 more Q1 wins.
What’s Q1A?

I think that with these larger conferences, you’re going to see some of these seeding principles relaxed a bit because bracketing is going to necessitate it. SEC may get 13 teams in. Probably not possible to adhere to every single principe with that many teams from one conference. Rules are made to be broken.
I don’t see the top 4 rule getting relaxed at all as that’s an easy one to follow regardless of conference size and makes total sense as you don’t want a single region loaded up with all the top teams from one conference. Once you get past the top 4 teams, numbers 5+ can and will be piled in with the top 4 of course.

I pulled this from the criteria (Section III: Building the Bracket): Each of the first four teams selected from a conference shall be placed in different regions if they are seeded on the first four lines.

Right now that would be Auburn, Florida, Tennessee, and Alabama.
I don't think they mean "SAME" conference. They would have said "SAME"

So from my understanding by these rules, we probably won't have to play Kentucky, Florida, or Vanderbilt unless it's the Elite 8.
If we play any of those 3 again in the SEC tournament, we won't be in same region.

Any other team we DO PLAY in the SEC tournament we wouldn't play them unless it's Elite 8.

Any teams we DON'T PLAY in the SEC tournament could potentially be in our 1st/2nd round games.

Teams from the same conference shall not meet prior to the regional final if they played each other three or more times during the regular season and conference tournament.

Teams from the same conference shall not meet prior to the regional semifinals if they played each other twice during the regular season and conference tournament.

Teams from the same conference may play each other as early as the second round if they played no more than once during the regular season and conference tournament.

It’s essentially the top half of Q1. So, for home games Q1 means the opponent is in the top 30. But Q1A is top 15. I’m not sure how much the committee uses that as a differentiator, but it’s there for them to see.
Good. There’s a definite difference between Michigan State’s Q1 wins and Bama’s, for example.

They really should differentiate these when it comes to a team like Michigan State against Tennessee or Florida for the top line. Have heard some noise about MSU getting to the top line if they win out. Iowa and Northwestern are Q1 wins for them, while USC is a Q1 loss. I'm sure some in the media will tout their 11 Q1 wins, but they aren't all created equal.

The rule that makes me smile the most when it comes to Alabama is this one.

  • A committee member (“member”) shall not be present during any discussion regarding the selection or seeding of a team the individual represents as an athletics director or commissioner;
Committee Member from SEC is Alabama's AD. Tennessee will more than likely get the 2 seed.

At some point you are going to have to play these top caliber teams, Location does make a difference and Officials do as well.

We see differences in officiating every year within our on conference. 10 different descriptions of physical. Missed calls, Lack of game control, too much, adjustments made at half and regional bias. Same ole, same ole.

Location and fans S16 games you want close to home.

Michigan State is the team to watch out for. Coaching and at play this time of year. They make a habit of peaking at tournament time --- mentally.

Exactly! Sorry, playing at Northwestern or USC isn’t the same as playing at Auburn or Florida. It’s not even close.

Any teams we've only played once this year, counting the SEC Tournament, we could meet in the 2nd round. Nobody will play a conference foe in round one.

haven't seen the South Carolina game thread yet, but I'm cautionally optimistic. we just can't came out flat in that one

we would rather be the 2 in Houstons bracket than the 1 in the west. But I also want to keep winning so if we so how reclaim the 1 seed I won't be upset

My realistic hope is this…

Auburn beats Bama, that should lock them below us and have us likely matched up with Houston in the Midwest bracket worst case, which seems like a decent draw considering.

However it would also mean we’re the 3 with Florida the 2, we’d play them Saturday if both teams won their opening games, could that potentially be enough if the committee views those 2 teams to tie break them? Could Florida catch a L on Friday and open that door, just a thought.
