I thought about starting with FDR, but the 50s kind of slowed things down a little. Decided to start with Johnson and the The Great Society spending.
Can't say I've ever known anyone to hate me, but I applaud your ability to make lemonade when life gives you lemons.
You are pretty much on point with this one. I could definitely do without the bragging. The approach to cuts is the same approach that I have seen numerous times in business, when a declaration of cuts is needed. Cut everything in sight that is non-mission critical and make the leadership justify anything they want to bring back. You generally wind up with around 50% of the cuts being re-instated.A locale for posting predictions, real time comments, and post- SOU reaction.
I'll start and I believe both sides will take an approach which unfortunately fans tribalism rather than calms it.
I predict the Dems will attempt some stupid stunt that will fall flat and show them as even more disconnected from reality. There's a lot of low hanging fruit there for them, i.e. Trump hasn't done anything to cut prices and his tariffs will be inflationary, RFK being less than certain in his comments about Measles vaccine. But knowing the Dem leadership, they'll make it about immigration or the like, where Trump is already killing them.
Trump has an opportunity to calm concerns about how tazmanian devil the whole DOGE thing has been, to lay out a more deliberate path for government efficiency. He can do the same with tariffs, and make is seem less fickle. But he won't. He will speak to his base and alternatively brag on himself and blame Biden.
I know you are aware last night was much about what we're going to do. More like a campaign speech, but mostly about posturing against the Democrats. The Democrats gave an extremely bad look. The smart thing would have been to smartly stand up and clap loudly. With a smirk. Instead of doing the obvious protest, do one with some creative flair. Out of touchMost of us don't know people like that but sadly they exist sometimes under our own noses but other times just blatantly in the open. I think we can say Trump qualifies as a person that many on the left hate based on the lawfare we saw from the state.
Yep, that is when the government stated telling the people what to do instead of doing what the people said to do.FDR in the 30s was bad though it did help us get out of the Depression. Regardless, that's when the government really started spending like a drunken soldier at a strip club after their deployment.
Yes, it was, not only for our security but for the NATO and SEATO as we know it today. When I look at the million plus of American soldiers wounded and killed in the European theater in WW1 and WW2 to help straighten out their messes, I wonder how much is enough. Then when you add in the trillions of dollars we have spent in their defense and the untold stories of PTSD and family suffering brought on by those wars. IT takes a lot of gall by any European saying that we should do more.We had to literally build our military for the war and then the Cold War, all right here in the USA. We did it to ensure the security we take for granted today. That was priceless
I'm not sure the narrative is "we should do more", but not to chop our aid to them unreasonablyYes, it was, not only for our security but for the NATO and SEATO as we know it today. I don't mind helping, but they have got to step up to the plate, after all it is their neck of the woods that is being defended. When I look at the 10 year history of spend by the 31 countries in NATO it kinda irks me. One of the weakest spenders is our good friends to the north. They have been riding our coat tails for a while.I'm not sure the narrative is "we should do more", but not to chop our aid to them unreasonably
You are one of the most gullible people on the planet.Political Theater.

'Devastating': DOGE cuts reportedly put cancer-stricken kindergartner's life at risk
A Michigan kindergartner's family is relying on experimental treatments and research courtesy of the National Institutes of Health to fight his extremely rare form of cancer — and that treatment could be up in the air amid cuts from tech billionaire Elon Musk's Department of Government...www.rawstory.com
Bring up the kid with Cancer and give him an award. Really nice moment for the kid. He doesn't know that when these guys head back into the office, they vote and work to undermine the lifesaving care he needs.
Donald Trump can talk about this all he wants, but his actions show he doesn't give a damn about childhood cancer. Another person used as a political prop. See: Latinos, African-Americans, Cubans, LGBT, etc etc etc.
Do you know how much of their economic output, as a %, is dedicated to defense spending? Plus, Europe and specifically NATO, do you realize there are a plethora of countries with exclusive responsibility on each one of them. Vance's characterization of England was both immature and ignorantI don't mind helping, but they have got to step up to the plate, after all it is their neck of the woods that is being defended. He’s busy changing his pants and buying another box of Kleenex. There’s no telling how many times he’s cried and peed the last two daysLuther.
You tagged Trump with the description of being a Horrendously Despicable Human Being.
Brother. Not standing and applauding a child with Brain Cancer is about as despicable as you can get. I’m even willing to agree with you that this was a political move to gain support among the audience. Fine! The child is standing in the room @luthervol!!! He’s standing in the balcony. He can see that half the adults in the room won’t even acknowledge his presence.
Their hatred for Trump is so strong that they couldn’t applaud a kid with brain cancer?? How horrendously despicable is that!!! And you just turn a blind eye to your party’s behavior because you hate Trump so badly that you would have probably sat on your fat a** too if you were in there last night.
Bye Luther.
