Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Nate Oats
Dusty May
Matt Painter
Grant McCasland
Nate Oats- Tennessee fans would hate him.
Dusty May - just signed a huge extension with Michigan and he did leave if would be Indiana.
Matt Painter- Coaches his Alma Mater probably never leaves.
McCasland- Could be a good choice has led North Texas to NIT Championship 2 seasons ago and his teams are always competitive.

Tennessee fans would love Nate Oats because he's gonna win at least 25 games every season and recruit like hell. I know he's wearing the wrong color, but he's a hell of a coach.

Going from Rick Barnes to Nate Oats would be a big CULTURE shock for the fans. Plus I don't think AD Danny White would poach inside the conference, especially a Bammer..

I'm gonna throw 3 names out there as possible replacements for Barnes when the time comes.
These names aren't my picks but I wanted to read people's reactions.

Anthony Grant
Chris Mack
Richard Pitino

Mack is easily the best of that bunch, but he had his issues at Louisville. Wouldn’t be a hire that would inspire a lot of confidence. Grant and Pitino are both huge no’s.

I'm gonna throw another name out there

Current High Point head coach Alan Huss
He's been the coach there for two seasons including this one.

He's 53 and 14 overall with 2 Big South regular season conference championships.

He was an assistant at Creighton for seasons prior to getting the High Point job.
I like him too......

Alan Huss, High Point: Huss didn’t get High Point to the NCAA Tournament last season, but 27 wins and a regular season title in your first season as a head coach is simply a ridiculous accomplishment. A disciple of Greg McDermott at Creighton, Huss knows what he’s good at and is good at what he knows. High Point averaged 84.2 points last season in its first year under Huss’ leadership.

Barnes replacement options:

1)Grant McCasland - don’t think this would happen as he’s a Texas native. Tech isn’t necessarily an elite job, though. I’d make him say no

2) Shaka Smart - He and DW have a relationship. Would he leave a comfortable situation at Marquette for a shot in the SEC? Probably not, but again, I’d make him say no.

3) Brad Brownell - I know this one wouldn’t thrill a lot of folks, but he’s a much better coach than he’s given credit for who may be ready for a change of scenery. Again, make him say no.

4) Mark Byington - would he leave Vandy after one season for an in state rival? I think he would be willing to listen.

5) Bucky McMillan - this guy has “Danny White guy” practically stamped on his forehead. His style of play and record of success would make him very appealing to DW.

6) Ben McCollum - he’s a winner. Has four D2 national championships and is doing very well in year one at Drake. Could he recruit at this level?

7) Ryan Odom - led UMBC to arguably the biggest ncaa tournament upset ever. Has VCU at the top of the A10 this season. Not a flashy guy, but he’s won everywhere he’s been.
