Recruiting Football Talk VIII

Yeah sadly with all these proposed expansions for Nashville I've been wondering if any of the public schools, museums or even hospitals would find themselves being slowly moved out to make room.

NHL team, NFL team, talks of adding WNBA, speculation of relocating NBA team there...and even MLS/MLB rumors. Only so much space in/around Nashville...
It wouldn’t surprise me at all. And not just for big venues like sports teams but developers of all stripes would love to get their hands on some of these properties. And once they’re gone, good public institutions rarely find their way back whether it’s a school, hospital, park, museum etc. The upfront cost is too much and they are often intentionally bankrupted to get their properties.

Good business move by his team tbh
Disagree for several reasons. Going public portrays Gibson as greedy with questionable character. Something that could have been avoided. What impact will this have on team dynamics as winter workouts conclude and spring practice commences. Could have been avoided if negotiations remained private. His team may have overestimated his value as other teams may not be inclined to bid. If he does portal, what keeps him from doing it again given he is draft eligible after next season. Just my $.02

A name that always gets missed in the conversation of great multi sport athletes -

Dave Winfield
Obviously never saw him, but Jim Thorpe has got to be on the list.

I also think there is a difference between greatest athlete and greatest competitor.

Jordan to me would be a better competitor than specifically athlete. He was a gifted athlete too.

Yes physical gifts alone got to be Bo.

Some others from the webs. I did not know Wilt and Jackie played so many sports. Some really gifted athletes on here. Too bad we do so much specialization now with youth.

1. Bo Jackson

Football: NFL Pro Bowler with the Raiders

Baseball: MLB All-Star with the Royals

The only athlete to be an All-Star in both MLB and NFL

2. Deion Sanders

Football: Hall of Fame cornerback, Super Bowl champion

Baseball: Played in MLB for multiple teams, appeared in a World Series

3. Jim Thorpe

Olympics: Won gold in the pentathlon and decathlon (1912)

Football: Played professional football and was a founding member of the NFL

Baseball: Played in MLB

Basketball: Played professionally

4. Babe Didrikson Zaharias

Olympics: Gold medalist in track and field (1932)

Golf: Dominated women’s professional golf, winning multiple majors

Basketball: Excelled as an amateur

5. Jackie Robinson

Baseball: Broke MLB’s color barrier, Hall of Famer

Football: Star running back in college

Basketball: Played at UCLA

Track and Field: Won NCAA titles in long jump

6. Wilt Chamberlain

Basketball: NBA legend, two-time champion

Volleyball: Played professionally after his NBA career

Track and Field: Competed in high jump, long jump, and shot put in college

7. Bob Hayes

Not sure who all has been mentioned but a few names I don't see talked about enough for "best athlete" that really should.

Jimmy Graham wasn't exactly an elite player but he did play 120 games at Miami (FL) averaging 16 mpg, 4.2 ppg, 4.2 rpg while shooting over 50% for his career there...then with only 1 season playing college football went to the NFL at 6'6" 260lbs ran a 4.56 at the combine with a 38.5" vertical goes on to catch over 700 balls for over 8500 yards with 89 TDs

Antonio Gates played in 85 basketball games starting 82 of them, in his 3 year career at 2 different schools he finished averaging 16.5 ppg with 7.8 rpg and 2.9 apg. His first season at Kent State he helped the team reach an Elite Eight and during that 4 game run he averaged 18.8 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 2 apg, while shooting 52.5% FG. Went on to play in the NFL and finished his career with over 950 catches over 11,500 yards and 116 receiving TDs and is now in the NFL Hall of Fame despite never playing a snap in college because Nick Saban while at Michigan State wouldn't allow him to play basketball hah.

very true.
drafted in 3 sports? right?
Yep. Drafted by 4 different teams, in 3 different sports - Baseball, Basketball, AND Football.

Also was a world class Volleyball player. A 6’6” 220lb Freak. Could have been a menace in today’s NFL as an Edge or TE.

Funny anecdote - He once intentionally pegged a seagull with a baseball between innings, killing the bird.
Billy Martin, who was always quick with a line, allegedly remarked - “It’s the first time all season he’s hit the cutoff man” 😂

Anyone seen @TN-POSSUM ? Lurking
PSA for the VN RF Regulars:

To be absolutely clear, I'M GOOD. It's just that my eyes have been bothering me for a little while. Switching to dark mode helped but my eyes have started getting "tired" more often, especially the past 3 or 4 months. It's really noticeable if I look at my phone more than 2 hours a day, so I'm "budgeting". It's nothing to be concerned about my BIG ORANGE friends, I'm just trying to cut down on my screen time.

norman lott may get drafted before James Pearce was not on my bingo card lmao

I feel like this is a classic case of "talk down the guy ya want so other teams back off" with Pearce...I do think Norman Lott will be drafted pretty high though, but I've seen this same thing happen so many times going into a draft...suddenly a guy who should be a sure fire top 15 pick has character concerns etc. then a team still takes him.

Firstly, good on you for reducing screen time. It's bad for your mind.

As for your eyes, get the twilight app on your phone. It'll block out a lot of the bad light that strains your eyes, it's much softer on your vision. My eyes have felt so much better since I got it a while back.

Instead of roaming around all night go to bed 😉

Screw Gibson....and screw all of the player ***lickers in here extending this pos move.

This is a pure scumbag move...I now despise him and want him gone.

I hate this...it has become exactly what I thought it would.

None of this is good.
This
Hit the road jack
Cant let this happen bc it becomes 10 times worse if other guys see it happen
Bye Felicia

Perhaps there is another CB out there that will see opportunity to get in DB rotation on an SEC defense. Not just that, but an SEC defense with a good DL and a capable offense. There's a lot to sell if someone wants to come

I don't know they'll be BETTER that Gibson, but perhaps we can bolster the group going into fall camp at least

I've see the Vols do well under this staff with a great offense and average-to-bad DB play. I'm more worried about depth and starting walk-ons by November than anything else.

Roster management is hard, as evidenced by the WR and DB rooms. But you can't negotiate with terrorists. Gotta let someone go when they burn VFL to turn VFP (Vol for Paycheck).
