2025 Seed Watch Party Thread

Many said the same about Duke’s bigs when we played them a couple years ago, I think our physicality would cause them some issues. I also think it’s very likely they wouldn’t make it far enough to even meet up with us.
To be fair, I’m sure they’d say the same about us (not getting that far). Personally I’m not worried about EE matchup. Anyone we play there is either going to be really good or really hot.

Nothing last night noteworthy, tonight’s slate…

7:00pm: Marquette vs. Villanova
8:00pm: Michigan State vs. Michigan

In the first game, Marquette is probably more on the 5 seed line and likely not much threat to us, but Villanova is of no threat so doesn’t hurt rooting for them. In the late game, Michigan is saw by most as a 3 seed surging while Michigan State is a 4 by most, either in theory could pose a threat with a strong close but that threat probably is close coming from Michigan, so I think rooting for MSU is the move here.

Going by the Selection Committee's reveal last week, Michigan was a solid #4 and MSU and Marquette I'm guessing were both on the #5 line (since they weren't ranked in the top 16). Since then, none of those three have lost and Kansas has surely dropped off the list after taking it on the chin twice more. All this to say I generally agree with you that none are a threat to us, but I'm using the Committee's seed list as a starting point when referencing where teams may sit six days later.

Tough call on the Michigan game. My only counter point is that it’s at Michigan. It would move the needle more to win on the road, so a MSU win would give them a bigger boost. It’s close though.

according to Lunardi the winner of the Michigan- Michigan St game will be a 3 seed. Seems like we kind of lose in this one either way, but personally I want to see Michigan go down
How do we lose? The outcome of this game doesn’t affect us, other than potentially putting one of them in our bracket as a #3 if we stay on the 2-line.

Today’s slate:
12:00pm: Tennessee vs. Texas A&M
12:00pm: Oregon vs. Wisconsin
1:00pm: West Virginia vs. Texas Tech
2:00pm: Iowa State vs. Houston
4:00pm: Georgia vs. Auburn
6:00pm: Florida vs. LSU
6:00pm: Kentucky vs. Alabama
8:00pm: Duke vs. Illinois
10:00pm: BYU vs. Arizona

Got 2 double whammy games, first up, Iowa State vs. Houston…if you’re hoping for a 1 seed you are rooting for Iowa State to win, if we were to lose today or you’re just trying to raise our floor to a 2 seed at worst then you’re probably rooting for Houston. Depends on the risk/reward and how greedy you want to be, knowing the outcome of our game first probably makes both of these situations easier. Same deal with Kentucky vs. Alabama, a Kentucky win makes a 1 seed more attainable, but an Alabama win further raises our floor to a likely 2 seed at worst.

I think there’s many folks who probably would prefer to be paired with Duke
I can’t believe Duke is number 1 in kenpom. Auburn has played a far tougher schedule and has a better record. I’m sure Duke has controlled their crappy ACC better but it’s illogical.

Great lineup today. No matter how hard I try, I can't root for Kentucky.

I think Bama will take care of itself so. It worried about them beating UK. Houston could be a problem but only if we lose a game. Win out and it doesn’t matter.

Based on remaining schedules, it appears Houston has a much stronger chance to get a #1 seed verses a 3rd SEC team.

If either us or bama wins out that team should get in. I don’t think we have a chance at it unless we beat A&M today (assuming Houston doesn’t blow it against a short handed ISU and Duke doesn’t lose to another unranked ACC team)

Iowa state beating Houston today just got a whole lot harder with both of their top 2 scorers out. Definitely could be a blowout

1 seed is in play right now.

Obviously it matters what happens with the teams around us (we can’t control that)

If we finished undefeated in regular season rest of the way (unlikely) I think our odds of a 1 seed are 80%+. Maybe much better.

If we go 3-1 I think it’s probably 50%

2-2 and I’d say odds are pretty low and dependent on other teams.

I agree with this. Presuming we will hold serve vs LSU and SC, we have to win next Saturday’s game to lock up a #1 seed. That one is huge.

2 for 2 so far, including the most important W!

If the ISU score holds 5/6 teams immediately below us will have lost in the last day or two, don’t crap the bed and we should be locked into a 2 seed pretty much.
