It was the first play of the 4th quarter, and we were up 4. It resulted in a FG. The bad part was we got 4 more possessions in that game.
The game was a šŸ’© show from the very first snap, dont get me wrong. But, arkansas was getting momentum back having scored a td on their previous drive then we punted, getting off the field there would have been MASSIVE but the penalty ruined that

I watched it again. There was no blocking on the line so Ross immediately got to the up-man who blocked him into the punter. I get it, but Squirrel also didn’t field a punt late, which totally flipped field position. In hindsight, if the official sees a review of the Ross play, I don’t think they call it.

Well, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Your's is pretty bad in itself. Having played basketball up until my body said "no", when a team is getting blown out at home by another meaty okra team, even though they came back, it screams inconsistency. The Vols do not have an alpha player that can take over the game. Some point to ZZ but when your alpha is a 5'-6" point guard, you're in trouble. I love ZZ but he can't take over a game consistently.

Being consistent is what makes teams have deep runs in the tournament. The Vols can beat anyone but the can lose to anyone.
Yeah...but that doesn't make them "average at best".

We are a really good team with flaws...we are not average...I love you InVol, but that is quantifiably dumb.

Average is 20-12 and being a 9th or worse seed, or in the NIT.

I know the game too, and if you know it like you say, then you know that almost anybody can win on any given day against anybody...you know those games where a team literally hits everything they throw up while the higher ranked team has a day when they can't throw it in the ocean?.

Basketball is a weird sport.

Costliest penalty in Vols football history
I would love to hear this debated.

Personally, I was there in the 04 SECCG when our long touchdown run against Auburn was called back and it seemed pretty costly at the time and in hindsight was too. Now been 25+ since our last football secc. Not that 20 is so much better than 25, but I always thought from 04-07 what could have gone differently that would have kept fulmer just a bit longer and not led us down the kiffin/dooley/butch/pruitt roads, and maybe winning that game would have gotten him the good will needed to stick around longer. Maybe would have all ended the same because the administration was what it was but of course can’t help but wonder.

Sylvester Stallone says he wants to make a movie about classical music.

He says, ā€œI will be Beethoven.ā€

Jean Claude Van Damme says, ā€œI’ll be Mozart.ā€

Arnold Schwarzenegger said, ā€œC’mon guys, don’t make meā€¦ā€
I’ll be Bach!

Eh, he was halfway blocked into him. It wasn't as clear as you're making it sound. He was already lunging toward the kicker when he was further assisted by the blocker.
He wasn’t lunging. He was running. There was either contact initiated for a block or there wasn’t. He could have pulled up with no contact. I would guess they are taught to go across the punter’s leg to avoid contact, and the block, however slight, charged that angle. There was minimal contact with punter anyway. Sure, you put some blame on Ross, but it was still a very weak call. I’ve seen much worse not called many times over.

you are what your record says. If you divide the conference into 3 tiers, we are in the middle tier.

I didn't think it was that weak. He didn't make an effort to pull up, and the blocker didn't 100% force him into the kicker. He was hit from the side and not that hard, and it looked to me like he had already started to lunge toward him. Yes his lunge initially might have taken him away from the leg and the block prevented that, but it wasn't like he had pulled up already and they pushed him from behind into the kicker, which is where you see that not called.

Incredibly stupid of him to put himself in that position on what was clearly a punt safe call. I agree it shouldn't have been called, but only because the kicker wasn't hit hard enough or at a moment of being defenseless, but again, close call.

Hot take: NBA Superstars will not participate in NBA Dunk contest cause they scared of the white boy Mac McClung... Unreal what he does ...
My hot take:
Don't let NBA players participate in the dunk contest. Allow dunk contest participants from the cities with NBA teams and do a lead up to a 4 person dunk contest championship with a $500k first prize. Really is no telling what kind of dunks we could see. Think a little And1 action.

I don’t think the rule says that the blocker has to 100% force the player into the kicker. By the very nature of a punt, a defensive player is running toward the kicker. Any contact that re-directs that player is a block toward the punter. You can’t just speculate as to what the player does without being blocked.

I don’t know that everyone got a punt safe call either. I’m sure he’s taught that if he isn’t blocked by anyone at the line, then to use his judgment toward the punter. He was 5 yards deep immediately. He blocked one against Chattanooga in the first game coming off the same edge, got chipped, and actually didn’t hit the punter at all. He lunged from about 5 yards away.

I say that tongue-in-cheek as someone with many Indian friends through academia. When you bring up an Indian stereotype they 1. Think its hilarious and 2. Say "That's South India, forgive them" to the bad ones. Almost all my friends are from North and Northwest India so they just blame the South for the bad stuff🤣
Curiously, people I interacted with in the south also shared that India’s problems were regional, but for them, India’s problems were rooted in the north.

Everyone else on our team went into punt safe. 1v5 going after the punter is silly. I'm not saying it should have been called, I'm just saying asking a ref to judge in real time if the blocker was 100% or 50% or 25% responsible for redirecting the player into the kicker is a tall order. He was headed directly for the kicker and was also blocked that direction. Not a cut and dry call either way, especially in real time.

Classic yankees vs rednecks. They've never had a civil war, but they sound primed for it. This is how it probably starts.

Tennessee drops 1 spot to number 6 in new AP poll....

Now back to deciding whether Jordan Ross was pushed or not.😓😓😓
I am amused by UConn being unranked. Would like to see Illinois get ranked again (them beating duke would help there, helping us in more than one way). Bama is primed to drop from a 1 to a 2 seed with their remaining schedule. We need to beat them in Knoxville. Would bet Houston loses at least one game with games remaining against TT, ISU, Kansas.
