Friendsville Academy (TN) ends a 138 game losing streak

“They don’t know how to win,” Coach Joseph Fink said of his young charges as the Friendsville Academy Foxes of Friendsville, Tenn., set a new record of sorts by losing their 119th basketball game in a row (TIME, March 6, 1972). That was a year ago, and it sometimes seemed that Coach Fink was literally correct, that the Friendsville Foxes would never win again. Last week, however, after spinning out their streak to 138 consecutive losses, the Foxes encountered a team almost equally consistent: St. Camillus Academy of Corbin, Ky., which had lost 48 in a row. In the epic clash of losers v. failures, the Foxes somehow managed to stumble to victory by a score of 62-43. Said the team’s new coach, Rick Little, contemplating his victory streak of one: “Oh well, you can’t lose them all.”

A group of Quakers called "Friends" settled Blount County, TN.

The Friendsville Institute was organized in 1854 by the Friends and began operation in 1857. After the foundation collapsed, another school was built and called Newberry Institute until 1881, when it was chartered as Friendsville Academy, which operated until closing in 1975.

True Detective S1 is just so good. On another level.
I remember watching it and not really expecting much. I'd watch an episode and think "holy sh* that was good" . . . I kept expecting it to bottom out at some point in the season, but it just kept getting better and better.

The Wire was pretty good, but I couldn't figure out why people were saying it was the best of all shows.

I've been totally confused by James Pearce drop in some of these mock drafts. He came into the year as a top 5 pick universally and now I've seen him in the bottom of the first round for some. It makes no sense. He played well this year and his physical gifts are unquestioned. Whoever gets him will get a steal. I think he's a bonafide pro bowl caliber player at the next level. Also wouldn't be surprised if he's defensive rookie of the year next season.

I asked Sally what it would invent if it could invent something cool like a smartphone. Sally said it would invent a personal assistant that would control everything in a person's daily life (a physical AI agent named "Lumi"). . . Sally says Lumi will be available in about 10 years 👀

The Wire was consistently brilliant from start to finish. Fans were skeptical of the switch on emphasis (from the streets to the docks) in the second season, but (unlike True Detective) it was properly appreciated afterwards. Multiple characters fully developed and reached their arc. I will say the conclusion was clunky in parts.

I love UT's uniforms..............but these.........these are another level of great!

We need a little more flash for sure.

We’ve gotten better with the Gray and Black uniforms, but they are still boring/stale

Orange helmets were alright, but still lacking.

The white helmets we wore a few years ago with the black outlines and face mask were the flashiest thing we’ve had. Need more of that.

Weekly signed the #4 class in 2024 and the #2 class in 2025 for softball
Caldwell signed the #2 class in her first full class 2025
Vitello signed the #1 class this past recruiting cycle and hasn’t been outside of 6th nationally in many years (with ****** facilities and by far the worst history of any UT program).
Rick is grabbing 3-4 transfers a year and signs 1-2 top 100 players per class.
Josh it’s your turn. The SEC is extremely competitive in every sport above. Josh has to keep making up ground

Never seen BoB, but TD S1 is for sure goated.

I'd probably throw up there a season each of:

Sopranos
The Wire
Mindhunter
Atlanta
I'm just now watching The Sapranos for the first time.
I have no idea what's going to happen......so many different ways.......It's great
