What can you do?First year head coach at UK and we couldn’t beat them once. Pathetic. Shot 16% from 3. Another milk carton game from our “shooter.” Oh well.
I know it’s very frustrating. Barnes HS recruiting seems extremely stale. I mean our 2025 class is ranked 29th. That’s not gonna cut it. I have a feeling Barnes hangs it up after this year. I love Barnes but we need a modern offensive style. What can you do?
I just dont see why CRB isnt more active in HS recruiting ranks? When was last time we had a big time, all world player on campus. I mean like Duke or, gasp... KY. We used to compete with Dook's and Kensucky's.
Anyway, tough loss. It hurts bc its KY. Love our Vols, lets go heal and get better.

Look at Caldwell. Year one she has been in every game even when facing powerhouses like SC, LSU and UCONN. I mean our roster is gonna be depleted next year. If Barnes comes back, is he willing to spend a ton in the transfer portal?
Pretty sure ZZ will not qualify for 5th year. I have been talking to a coach who believes extra year will not start until next years players. What I’ve heard:
1. Barnes probably not retiring this year because they expect to get ZZ (and others) back based on this “fifth year” thing from the NCAA. We’ll know before spring is over.
2. They have people in the portal already targeted for this coming season, so they’re not spending heavy on HS recruiting.
Men’s basketball has been 13 scholarship limit. Sure, we could and probably should have 2 extra bodies, but most good teams only play 8-9 guys. You won’t get many portal guys knowing that. Just an unusual circumstance with a guy quitting mid season after a season ending injury. Why did we come into the season with only 11 scholarship players? The limit is 15, why didnt we use all the scholarships? That’s why I hate the “depth” excuse when we havegames like last night. The staff should have known we wouldnt make it through the season without injuries, yet we didn’t sign enough players
He had one and done players several years ago. While we had decent seasons, those players still don’t have the experience for post season play. Unless you are getting a top 10 HS player, I think he’s adjusted to the portal later in his career along with trying to develop a couple of top 75 HS players along the way. He likes the experience in the postseason. We’ve had 2 straight seasons of SS or better. We haven’t been average in 6 years. He knows how to put together a highly competitive roster.I know it’s very frustrating. Barnes HS recruiting seems extremely stale. I mean our 2025 class is ranked 29th. That’s not gonna cut it. You are a super big idiot. You nor anyone else knew a damn thing about Chaz Lanier before the season. He came out and shoots other worldly and you expect that every night. Everybody knows that the problem is Rick Barnes, he's a terrible coach and needs fired. My daddy used to say it is better to be quiet and have people think you're an idiot than to start talking and let them know for sure you're a moron.Lanier has been a massive disappointment
The winner is always the team that scores the most points/runs etc. One can do that by having your defense prevent the other team from scoring or your offense scores more points than the other team. In 1939, the defense made it very for the offense because they prevented the other team from scoring any points during the regular season. However, the offense did not score enough points in the bowl game to win, or the defense di not prevent the other teams from scoring. The question is, who is to blame for that bowl game loss, the offense or the defense? The only blame I can lay is on the defense because they did not play up to their season's standard and allowed the other team to score.Offense wins championships in basketball.
Offense wins championships in basketball.
The limit is 13 in men's basketball, not 15. We came into the season with two open scholarships, not four. Why did we come into the season with only 11 scholarship players? It’s just been hectic and an emotional and exhausting roller coaster ride. OH has been off the ventilator for a few days now. Pretty much as soon as they said he wouldn’t improve and I had the priest do the anointing of the sick (last rites), he came off the vent the next afternoon and started talking. The priest called it a miracle and it’s hard to disagree considering I was being pressured to DNR before the vent and then to pull him off it once it happened. The next few days after that were hellacious for him though because he still had every tube known to medicine hooked up to him and he couldn’t pass a swallow test so no food or drink. He has been incredibly weak but the sepsis and pneumonia are gone.I'm worried for @UTProf. Not been around in a few days.
It's hard to fill those last spots with anything other than projects. Could we have taken some projects? Sure. Would those projects be ready to contribute? Probably not. Good players want assurances of playing time, which is hard to do.I think the point is still valid. I'm perpmecedby that as well. Do most teams just leave scholarship spots open?
Thanks for letting us know. Much better news than I expected to hear. It’s just been hectic and an emotional and exhausting roller coaster ride. OH has been off the ventilator for a few days now. He still hasn’t passed a swallow test but they’re okaying thickened drinks and food. He is stable enough for laser surgery which they’re going to do today to get rid of the kidney stone that caused the infection to start with. This shouldn’t be too traumatic of a surgery but he’s still very fragile.
They are talking about sending him home in a few days but I am worried about his ability to walk and swallow. If he is still aspirating (and they told me he is), I don’t understand why they’re sending him home. My big fear right now is that they’re sending him home too soon. He is stable but not exactly well and with sepsis the year after is dangerous.
That said his spirits are high and he is on cloud nine after finally getting some food and drink. I’m headed back to the hospital in a few.
I’m so grateful for everyone’s support and I honestly don’t think I could’ve gotten through some of this without you all. It’s the loneliest feeling in the world when you’re being pressured to give up on your other half or any loved one and a staff of experts is telling you the best thing is the opposite of what your heart says but for whatever reason I’ve seen OH come back too many times and be such a medical oddity. He could get a splinter and some weird thing would turn it into a life or death battle or get hit by a trebuchet and shake it off. It’s the damndest thing I’ve ever seen or heard of.
Please keep thinking of us and praying. His surgery is supposed to be around 3pm.
I'm not disagreeing with you because I don't know, but do other teams have the same number of contributors as we do? Seems like from my limited experience paying attention to it, other teams have more players scoring points in an average game than we do.It's hard to fill those last spots with anything other than projects. Could we have taken some projects? Sure. Would those projects be ready to contribute? Probably not. Good players want assurances of playing time, which is hard to do.
Continuing to pray for you. Hold on to God and trust His perfect Plan. Thank God for miracles large and small. It’s just been hectic and an emotional and exhausting roller coaster ride.
