Recruiting Football Talk VIII

I know the insiders said he wasn't great at recruiting, but our STs have been good under Ek. Hopefully whoever takes over, guessing Chop, can maintain the standard.
Honestly it seems like most programs that have talent are good at STs. It's not brain surgery. Gather enough depth in speedsters and have a brand name, you'll succeed at STs.

This is crazy to me. Phenomenal stuff. Always thought he was the best on the court basketball coach there is in game coaching and game planning

After feeling utterly hopeless Saturday and Sunday morning, I didn’t want to go to the hospital yesterday. I wanted to stay home and feel sorry for myself but I had called a priest (OH is catholic) and he had called back and said he would be down there. So I drug myself back to the hospital and at the sound of my voice OH opened his eyes despite the vent and the propofol. He knew when I was speaking to him and by the end of the visit he was nodding his head to statements and questions. He is still in there and fighting.

I don’t know what the future holds and odds are still very slim but I have some hope now and a little bit of joy from seeing him respond to me. It gave me certainty that I did the right thing by not giving up on him.

A million thanks won’t cover the debt of thanks I owe you all for the support and kindness you’ve shown. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. We’re in for a helluva fight but we are definitely going to fight.
More prayers sent.

dang. hang in there. God has this.

I’m just hoping the Warriors don’t get KD and LeBron. There are talks/rumors of them joining Steph. Personally don’t like that for the NBA.

Let them get all those old no defense playing geezers. It ain't 2016 anymore. Teams like OKC, Cleveland, and Boston would still be better. Playoff basketball is about playing defense and young legs can play defense more consistently than a bunch of 36-40 year olds.

...some guy named Jokic? SGA?

AD ain't top 5 lol

Jokic plays zero defense. Defense is 50% of the game. I'll always rate the elite defensive player with elite offensive production over the guy with better offensive production but zero defense.

SGA is a more interesting case. His numbers are superstar caliber. And his team is elite. But his game never impresses me when I watch him play. If he can lead OKC to a title I might reconsider but I think he might be another guy whose stats make him look better than he really is.

The top 5 players in the NBA right now IMO are:

1. Giannis
2. Wembanyama
3. AD
4. Jokic
5. Anthony Edwards

I have Edwards below Jokic despite his superior defense because perimeter defense is not as valuable as rim protection.

lol. You keep talking about defense. How many titles does OKC, Boston and post-Lebron Cleavelsnd have?

What does that have to do with anything? We're talking about the 2025 NBA playoffs and beyond. OKC and Cleveland currently have the best records in the league by a wide margin and the Celtics are the defending champs with arguably the best roster in the league.

The NBA champion has historically always been one of the best defensive teams in the league. When LeBron and KD were younger they played elite defense and were on teams with other elite defenders. Now they're older and can't play the same level of defense. It's why neither has come close to a championship in years.

I can't believe you're actually trying to argue that defense doesn't win championships.

AD over Jokic is a joke.

I will admit in their head to head playoff matchups recently Jokic has dominated AD. But in terms of overall impact I would still prefer having an elite two way big like AD on my team than the defensive liability that is Jokic.

I think it's easier to build a championship team around AD than Jokic. I also think you can add AD to more teams and they instantly get better versus Jokic whose lack of defense would be problematic.

Must be.

3x MVP vs...a very good player.

5-yr PER avg of 32 vs 25.5...

It's not close.

Top-3 (if not #1) vs maybe (probably?) borderline top-10.

If it's a stat padding competition I'll admit nobody is better in NBA history than Jokic. But if we're talking about winning basketball give me the elite two way big who has similar offensive production and significantly better defense.

Its wild to me how fans ignore 50% of the game. My theory is because there aren't as many stats for tracking how good a player is on defense most fans just ignore it as being less important. I on the other hand give defense as much weight as offense when judging elite basketball players.

AD is better on both sides on the court than Jokic. That isn't debatable regardless of how good Jokic is at putting up stats.

John Shumate first at 72 years of age.

What did the Notre Dame team that Shumate was on accomplish in 1974?

Jokic is the best player in basketball. His defense is not bad at all.

Yeah AD would be better than the most efficient/skilled big man in the history of basketball 😂
