Tonight’s game will be interesting to say the least, LSU’s top three players will all play 35+ minutes likely, and in the second half they will have to find extra gas in the tank to withstand the constant fresh players SC will keep bringing onto the court who have full gas tanks. This will likely show up most for LSU’s defense in the second half, as tired players will struggle on defense.
LSU is capable of shooting at a very high clip in the game for stretches, and they are really good on the boards, but that is all predicated on the top three players having some fuel left in the tank in the 4th, especially on defense. SC will roll 9-10 players through the lineup in the first 30 minutes of the game, LSU will play maybe 7 in that span with the top three playing almost all 30 minutes. LSU is obviously very talented and capable of the upset, but their big three have to find the extra fuel to find defense for 35+ minutes while in the game.
That is SC’s secret sauce, has been for the past many years. Rotate fresh players in every 4-5 minutes. And the bench players are just as capable as the starters. Their top two scorers come from the bench. LSU players who stay in all game have a lower energy level naturally, and have to face the new wave coming in that are all really good and capable of going off on you if you are playing tired defense.
Having said all that, I expect a tighter game than the line which is a 14 pt spread, because these two teams bring everything when they play each other. Final prediction, 79-71 SC. Edwards, Fulwiley and Tessa Johnson off the bench with full gas tanks should be the difference.
So it was written…..hopefully. Let’s see what Mulkey cooks up.
