I didn't serve so don't have first hand knowledge, but why not? I mean, at all,? Or can they in your view serve support roles even if the field? If not what not. Genuinely curious as to take of those who have been there.

In my opinion they shouldn't be assigned to infantry units at all, even in support positions. They are a distraction and lead to discipline problems, for the most part that's not of their doing but a fault of the men but it's still a fact.

The military and especially the combat arms branches are not their to promote diversity, social agendas or equity. They are there to break stuff and kill people.
