I'm sure if the WRs were trusted to catch the football then we would've seen more of 22. But 2 years straight the WRs couldn't catch a cold so the offense has to be pedestrian
No he missed at least 2 deep shots with overthrows vs Bama too. He just put it together with everything else in the 2H.
We should’ve beaten Bama by about 3 TDs.
And I agree if he hits those and WRs actually catch the ball when he puts it on them then the offense looks WAY different.
Agree with thisThe biggest issue Heupel has with his offense comparing it to 22 when he was most creative. He had an amazing o line that could pass block for days and give Hooker a Clean pocket/run block effectively. Plus had a WR room that was miles better than the room this year. We all hate it cause our offense is so vanilla, but he schemed this sorry talented offense matched with a great defense to a 10-3 szn with a cfp appearance. Without a great o line Nico will never have time to read (process) adequately.
But we’re going to keep portaling mercenary OLs when the best ones are developed for your scheme out of HS. Cohesiveness can’t be built. I know nothing about OL play but the guys that do talk about chemistry all the time. The biggest issue Heupel has with his offense comparing it to 22 when he was most creative. Obviously Hendon > Nico at this point. And there’s a lack of talent at WR. The OL shouldn’t be this bad at pass blocking.
But that’s (one of) the point of tempo/movement when you lack the edge man to man. Move guys around. Eye candy.
We stood around. Really lame offense. People will say it’s Heupels offense. I’m not so sure.
Pretty resounding difference when Golesh left.
Hendon also had played in 25 games, 19 as a starter when he got to TN. In addition, HH is simply a much better runner than Nico, which masked a bunch of our weaknesses and made the offense more dynamic.Obviously Hendon > Nico at this point. Good point about experience. Nico is really green. Funny though, I think Nico looks like a better runner. Like a newborn giraffe but he’s smooth.Hendon also had played in 25 games, 19 as a starter when he got to TN. Don’t think Nico will ever approach HH’s ability with his legs, but I think he should take a big step forward next year with his command of the offense just from experience.
I went to the Chattanooga game and Nico looked absolutely fantastic. He hit every throw early in that game because the o-line gave him time. Same thing happened against NC State and Kent St, then we went to Oklahoma. He got blasted early in that game and it messed with him. You throw in WR's dropped passes and you get a regular looking QB. He's not had time to throw for most of the season. We also forget that he's just a RS Freshman. If they can get the o-line fixed and the WRs to catch, then Nico and the offense will look like the 22 offense again. I still believe Nico is going to be the best QB we've had in the Josh Heupel era.Nico needs pass protection, foremost. Then targets. Then he needs to unlearn his experience that he will be blindsided within two seconds. I still think he will be great.
Our ’22 OL was really good.
Agreed, It’s somewhat a chicken/egg conundrum. If you put a gun too my head I would bet that if Hooker was at the controls the play calling would be way more creative with Halzle. Maybe someone can send Heupel an email and ask him?Heup put up numbers pre-Golesh at Mizzou and UCF. Golesh was only with him for one season at UCF. No doubt he provided more play design and play calling ability but it’s always been Heup’s offense.
@Weezer experimenting in his spare time. just trying to find places to put things. Yeti's dont have pockets after all.
They rushed for nearly identical yardage their sophomore seasons and Nico did it in less carries against SEC competition. So you may be right.Good point about experience. Nico is really green. Funny though, I think Nico looks like a better runner. Like a newborn giraffe but he’s smooth.
