Potential TV Ratings Play No Role Whatsoever

Sure and FDA officials don't get more money when they install regulations that help big pharma.... They just do exactly what they think is right. Just a coincidence that they end up on the board of one of those company later...
Ok..what is the equivalent benefit that might flow to a committee member?

Or maybe just maybe the OP is really this dumb?
I was actually told I was dumb by the OP . I feel like that is a ban worthy statement . It’s disrespectful and is name calling . I didn’t join this board to be called names and have my intelligence questioned. Hell I’ve been on this board 17 years and never in my life have I ever been treated this way. This is an embarrassment to Vol fans everywhere. I am writing a strongly worded email to the Volnation higher ups.

I ACTUALLY DGAF. It’s kind of a badge of honor coming from this guy.

The college football playoff has a massive contract with ESPN for this playoff and if ESPN doesn't get an adequate return on investment, the contrac will be smaller when they renegotiate.

ESPN might care but they don’t have a role in choosing the teams

ESPN is the CFP's source of revenue. There doesn't have to be direct collision (though I wouldn't rule it out) for both entities to share the same profit motive. The CFP shares a strong interest in having a highly rated college football playoff and guess who one of the most popular teams is: College Football TV Ratings

If you look at quality of wins and losses, Ole Miss has a much stronger resume but the committee does not care. They want the ratings that will come with having Alabama in the field.

I get why that would matter to ESPN but why would a committee member care?

Dude you’ve got 30 or so ppl in here telling you you’re wrong but you’re too locked in on your stupid opinion to even consider you might be wrong.
if everyone was right and I was wrong, then it would be easy to answer the questions I keep asking...yet no one seems to be able to.

You want to take a stab at the benefits that accrue to a committee member when ratings are higher and a negative outcome when they're lower?

Ok, we got some newcomers…who can be the first to answer it? Only one has even tried, which says a lot

What is the positive benefit to a committee member if ratings are high or what’s the negative if they’re low? This is the wall you guys keep running into

I don’t really care to argue with you on anything at this point. It’s a waste of time. I’m not sure how you believe there is no benefit to these members but I’m happy to let you roll with it.

and how does a committee member benefit from that?
They are all either active or former employees and alumni for various athletic departments and likely want to see those departments remain financially solvent.

Conferences have a payout pool of $79 million from the cfp annually. I would imagine that these sports administrators, journalists and coaches want to see that number go up so that their schools and conferences will continue to benefit from this revenue source. Each participating school receives at least $4 million.

They are just like politicians, heck they are politicians. Politicians don't necessarily make a lot of money they have power. People like that thrive on the power and money is secondary. Just like politicians, if they are successful that opens up more opportunities to make huge amounts of money. So yes there are lots of reasons that they want to have a highly desirable (money making) product.

So you realize they don't get any personal benefit, just a general, "hey, college football does better when tv ratings are higher, and I want it to succeed" mentality? You think that would lead to someone putting a different team in because they might rate a 9.8 while a different matchup might rate a 8.3? That doesn't seem very likely, especially when the marginal difference to any one athletic department is infinitesimally small

Six of the thirteen committee members are athletics directors. All those guys care about is revenue. The governing board of the cfp holding company are the conference commissioners. You gotta be awfully naive to think the committee isn't making business decisions behind closed doors.

If SMU gets in over Alabama this whole argument falls apart, yes?
