Redemption story involving former Vol Daniel Hood

Sounds like he is on a good path.
Remember him being a decent dude at Nose Tackle for Dooley and I think the 1st year of Jones...think he had a few key tackles / sacks.
Yeah losing him that season under Butch was big. He anchored the middle of our D-Line for most of that season and when they dismissed him, our defense got noticeably worse. Glad he seems to be in a good place now.

Remember reading this years ago but had forgotten about this story. Definitely shows that Coach Dooley while in over his head really cared for his players.

Can’t read without subscribing, cliff notes please
Daniel Hood discovered his mother’s dead body along with her ex boyfriend in a murder/suicide his junior year at Tennessee. He credits coach Dooley in getting him through the ordeal.

Here is an excerpt:
“Being suicidal was not uncommon for me, I had felt those feelings before in my life. And I felt them even more then. But Dooley was there for me. He helped me talk through everything so this didn’t manifest itself in addiction or in suicide. Because that was possible. I’d be lying to you if I said it wasn’t.”

And if anyone says Tennessee football players weren’t upset when Dooley was fired on Nov. 18, 2012 after going 15-21 in just shy of three full seasons, that would be a lie too. At least one of them wept
