Recruiting Football Talk VIII

“And there might have even been a ‘25 who had not really been taking Tennessees phone calls who called and said ‘hey I need to talk.’”- AP

I didn’t see where he suggested it was a position of need though.

They circle back to the mystery recruit around the 16 min mark and AP wont reveal the name but he literally says it’s “a spot of need for this class”.

Recruiting rankings are like AP rankings, mostly a popularity contest. Recruits are mostly ranked on who is recruiting them. I personally don't put much stock in recruiting rankings. I made be old but I put them in the same category as metrics. I am a numbers guy and I know too much can be made of statistics. I think we are recruiting at the same level as the other elite schools right now. We are competing for the same athletes.

Not quite a popularity contest. Recruits individual ranks can be wrong, but in aggregate the totals trend toward being accurate. UGA started bringing in top rated classes and National Championships followed, not the other way around. We’re recruiting very well but not #1 to #3 well. That’s the range that gets you an elite squad of blue chips. Do we need it to win it all? Maybe not, but the formula continues to work for UGA and I don’t see them taking a step back yet.

RB room is more than fine. It's elite. Bishop will go for 1,000 next year, Lewis or Seldon 600, Keith will grab a handful of red zone touchdowns + Baker coming in who I think is hugely underrated. I would love to see Morris but if not we likely are getting Hiter in '26 anyways. No need to hit the portal. Hold on to the receipts.

I still can’t believe how different things are today vs just a few years ago.

After so many failures a resurrection felt impossible. I was cautiously optimistic about Heupel when he was hired, but thought he would be a bridge hire to bring respectability back for someone else to finish the job. The job this man has done is one for the ages.

Back in the day, every game felt like I was desperately looking for some glimmer of hope that we were on our way back, only to find disappointment with another Bama beatdown.

Now, even a loss doesn’t hurt as bad as it used to because I know the right guy is in charge and the train is rolling again.

It’s always been great to be a Tennessee Vol, it’s especially sweet when the BVS is a thing of the past.
When Heup was hired I already knew a little about him. I started following him when he got the job at UCF. It caught my attention because he had won a Natty at Okie and his connections with Leach. I was asked by my buddies who had no idea who he what it was gonna look like. I said, if he runs what he's running now it is going to be very different from what Tennessee has ever done and a lot of people will be shocked.
Heup has worked miracles. And I was right I am shocked.

And those are the two best teams. I've never felt more like a sucker than when I bought into all the hype this year and tuned in to a few games. It's such a bad product.

It's like all the millions of new energy drinks out there. Super slick, amazing marketing, then you go try it and you're like, "this is literally just caffeine, carbonated water, and fake fruit flavor like every single other new energy drink."

It is a tired old debate but I still say rankings are driven by the offer list of the player. You are correct that UGA brought in top classes before they won but all those players they were getting were being sought after by all the top schools. They were winning on the trail with big boys and so are we now. I thought three years ago, when was the last time we consistently beat out Alabama, Georgia, and Florida for recruits, that's when we will know we are back. That time is now.
