I feel like they looked small too.WCU ran out of gas on defense. NC State was in real trouble til that happened
ND ran a hellva year-long media campaign for Hornung. I wonder if it was the first. They had their schedule set up to play in about all of the biggest media markets and they hyped Hornung to those newswriters.
Majors' injury prolly kept him from winning, iirc. Distorted the stat comparison.
Majors is right that Brown should have been 1. Majors 2.
Hornung did well with the Packers. Lombardi built his offense around him.
We should skill drag them.NC State didnt look near as good as they thought they would.
They were down in thr 4th quarter and WCU's d-line had them on skates... it's going to be a bloodbath in Charlotte. Calling it. Horrible match up for them.
Their skull guys are good, but we may knock McCall out of the game like Slovis.
I’m talking about games inferior competition. If UTC puts up a bunch of points then it it safe to say that our defense isn’t as good as advertised. Each game stands alone. I was at the Pitt game in 2022 where we could have put it away and didn’t. Pitt team goes 9-4, and we end up beating UF and Bama.
Horning was a poor passer. He had a 3-13 touchdown-interception ratio the year he won the Heisman! He threw an interception once every 8.5 passes. He was a really good running back.Paul Hornung is the most undeserving Heisman winner to ever do it.
59 of 111 for 53.2% with 917 yards, 3 TDs and 13 INTs
94 carries for 420 yards and 6 TDs
This was on a Notre Dame team that finished 2-8 that year too (102nd of 111th teams)
Majors on a 10-1 Tennessee team should have gotten the nod for sure.
36 of 59 for 61% with 552 yards, 5 TDs and 3 INTs
108 carries for 549 yards and 7 TDs
Absolutely zero reason you hand that to Hornung, he shouldn't have even been in the top 5 finalist.
Defensive players can’t win the Heisman (except for that one other “only” time…).Honestly of all the Vols Doug Atkins never even making top 10 in the Heisman race is the biggest screw job. Being he was a key reason we won National titles in '50 and '51 but it appears defensive stats weren't even tracked properly.
I agree. I tried to look up his Vols stats up yesterday and nada. Atkins was the best player in college football and should have won the Heisman.Honestly of all the Vols Doug Atkins never even making top 10 in the Heisman race is the biggest screw job. Being he was a key reason we won National titles in '50 and '51 but it appears defensive stats weren't even tracked properly.
He'd be perfect at an FCS school........like where he was at JSUI honestly think that was the plan..... But if I'm a head coach there's no way I want Deion around my franchise.
Deion will leave Colorado in worse place than he found it. That's saying something.
Their decades of misery are largely self-imposed. The university doesn’t care about football (or sports at all, really), and most of the institutional apparatus openly disdains intercollegiate athletics. At least they did when I was there. My advisor liked to brag about the role he played in killing Colorado football during Gary Barnett’s tenure.I hope for your sake that coach prime is Colrado’s pruitt. Hopefully Colorado can fire him for cause, avoid a payout and then hire a real coach. They have had essentially decades of misery due to their inept athletic department.
Up until his hiring, I have rooted for Colorado. Except when they played Tennessee.
I dont think its possible.Deion will leave Colorado in worse place than he found it. That's saying something.
Paul Hornung almost made it two the year Johnny Majors won it.Travis Hunter already being pushed for Heisman Trophy. I personally don't care but thought it was interesting that a player on a team with a losing record at end of season would be in position to win the award.
Only one individual has every won the Heisman playing for losing team .
