Recruiting Football Talk VIII

The point I was trying to make is it is much less likely for a baseball player to die by taking a 100 mph fastball to the helmet or cheek than a vicious hit on Football field. For those who beg to differ remind me when a baseball player died after a headshot.
Not sure. I know of a couple of cases , one LL and one HS where a kid died when he was hit in the chest by a ball and it screwed up his heart rhythm. Not sure how that works. I think there is no argument that football is a dangerous sport, obviously more so than baseball, but life is full of dangers. I think we have to make individual decisions for what's best for our kids. Both of mine were high level wrestlers and didn't play football, mostly because one was a 119 lber as a Senior and the other was a 135. Both had some injuries and both injured other competitors. But the lessons they learned and the toughness they developed were well worth it.

How many football players have died on the field from taking a hit? Genuine question, I can't think of any.
We had a kid down here from a small private school in Selma Friday Night. Again, until they investigate thoroughly whether he already had an issue that the hit helped compound or it was just a freakish thing we don't know yet.

150lbs is truly undersized. But smarts, determination, good technique and strong core evens the playing field a lot. The tough thing is watching them take on a truly talented and motivated 280+ lb DT.
Good technique is the key. Ethical coaching is another. Almost all heat deaths can be attributed to either an underlying, undetected cause or some yahoo, macho fool ignoring Heat policy and basic safety. We have always been very protective of the game and the profession and continued to educate ourselves and change attitudes and techniques as the game evolved over time. Many times I have had the Joe Rec Ball types want to talk about schemes. My questions were always how do you teach tackling? Do you understand teaching leverage and fits? How much time do you spend on pad level?

I wouldn't be surprised. We laugh at the gata a lot, but they still play ball and have some players. I think we win it, but I think it'll be a tough game.

Also. . .

I just don't think our defense is getting enough credit yet. I think it's gonna be really hard for anyone to score 30 on us and maybe even more difficult to keep us below 35.
Other than our DL, our defense hasn't really earned any credit. A whole bunch of unproven beyond the DL.
