They (the collective colleges) were actually the ones that originally pushed it down (from 105 or 110 I believe) to 95 and then 85...in order to increase parity.

Now NIL has created more parity...and they (or the power schools?) suddenly want to reverse course?

1973 brought about the first limitations on football scholarships in order to free up money for women's sports after Title IX was passed by Congress in 1972 as part of the Equal Opportunity in Education Act. This caused the NCAA schools' presidents and athletic directors to push through a limit of 105 football scholarships. Additional reductions were made in 1978 (95) and again in 1992 which brought the limit to its present number of 85 and 63 for Division I-AA.

schools were going to have to come up with new revenue streams just to cover player payments, whenever that happens. Now with these increased scholarships, that is going to have to happen even sooner. Donations increased? Tickets? Concessions? Souvenirs? Parking? Money has to come from somewhere. its over 3 million just to cover the increase in football scholarships.

Going to games will continue to rise for fans as expenses rise.

Yep the schools drove the scholarships # down. To reach parity was declared the reason why. Not all schools will have funding for 105 roster. Our football and basketball programs cover the red ink for all the other programs. Most SEC schools can cover but not all.

NIL hasn't created any parity nor will eliminating the scholarships restrictions.

But I am extremely happy to see increases # in scholarships for basketball and baseball. The 11.7 baseball li it was nuts.

Hopefully the new revenue-sharing model will cover the lion's share

As part of the new revenue-sharing model — beginning in 2025-26 academic year (1 Jul 25-30 Jun 26)— by-sport scholarship restrictions are eliminated, and schools are permitted to offer scholarships to the entirety of their rosters.

oh the cost of going to games will continue to increase. that train is not going to slow down.... tickets I used to have tripled in cost (Section B) and will continue upwards IMO

I’m not seeing how this will make much of an impact in the portal era? Only 50-60 guys play in the games. Back in the days of more scholarships, players were accustomed to waiting their turn to play. Most top recruits want to be in the lineup within the first 2 years. How can 105 guys stay happy enough to stay out of the portal? Will be interesting.

Possible but in this day and age with the TP in full swing will players want to just ride the pine and lose their opportunity to exposure and increased NIL revenue? A highly sought after recruit buried behind 7 other highly sought after recruits in a position group might well not sign with that program.
