2024 Transfer Portal Thread

Dude did the literal same thing last year, like chill out and be patient like everyone with a clue said to.
Those guys like that are either always negative about everything in life, or just trolling. Then cry like they are literally being scourged when someone calls them on it. Normal people don’t make statements like that 2-3 days into portal season.

I hate to say this about a Bammer.

But Mark Sears gives me serious Jalen Brunson vibes. I’d be pretty thrilled to draft him late first or early second round.
Sears is good but the rest of that squad is pretty mid we beat them pretty easily last year by playing good defense and they lost some good wings to the portal, hope they enjoyed that Mickey Mouse run they haven’t really done anything to move the needle for me

😂😂😂 sure a front court player that averaged 4 points and what 4 rebounds at Kentucky pairs with Sears and Nelson definitely moves the needle for some I guess
Personally, I always felt good about playing bama this season because they lacked a true post player and had no real rim protection. Have to see how Onyenso blends into their rotation, but he can potentially fill that void. I’d wait and see before getting worried myself. JMO

Ben McKee said earlier today that it was his understanding that Chrisitian Anderson would not happen. I'm guessing he has pretty good sources, but is a little strange considering there seem to be some smoke there this weekend. BTO have you heard differently on Anderson than Mckee at 247?
I had just heard he was someone we evaluated and liked and were in contact with…not sure how far it got or if that stopped. I know @onfocusgovols sure seemed to think he was a major target.

Did you watch him at Kentucky at all, he was terrible. Can’t guard the pick and roll. Can’t shoot. Can’t defend besides blocking the ball. Terrible hands. 0 iq.

Just watched them against us and parts of a couple other games. My impression wasn’t as bad as yours. Thought he was pretty good at timing and blocking shots. No offense appeared to go through him as they had plenty of options to shoot the ball. He was tall and athletic. As I said before, it’s a wait and see situation to know his impact there. He’s certainly not a sure thing, but I’d bet our fans would be happy for him to have signed with us.

Ehhh, got better no doubt.
As most people thought and said it would. Maybe don’t make ridiculous statements so early on in the process. There was no way a coach of Barnes caliber and a program of Tennessee caliber wasn’t going to land very good players when it was all said and done, especially after seeing Knecht’s growth here.

No I wouldn’t…lol I don’t go by transfer portal rankings on 247 not to mention these are the schools who reached out to him which should tell you everything about his recruitment Oklahoma, Georgetown, Louisville, bama and Florida

It’s not just the pairing of Onyenso with Sears and Nelson that “moves the needle” it’s everything else around that as well. They’ve put together an extremely deep roster, and if Sears does return, there won’t be many holes on that team. The way Nelson played to finish out the season is kind of what most expected him to look like most of the year when they landed him. If they get 75% of NCAA Tournament Nelson consistently throughout the upcoming season, they’re going to be extremely difficult to handle.

I see you continue to learn absolutely nothing from any of your conversations with other people on this board about insulting people over disagreements in opinion. Alas, I’ll bite.

Alabama has the No. 2 class in the high school rankings with 2 elite Top 20 prospects and 2 additional Top 40 prospects. They return Grant Nelson, Latrell Wrightsell, and potentially Mark Sears, with 3 high quality transfers in Holloway, Youngblood, and Mallete. If they do land Onyenso, they’ll have a great post defender who won’t be expected to do anything other than rebound and dunk to marry with their perimeter play.

That’s a scary good team. The fact you don’t think so would suggest you are the one who knows nothing about basketball instead of me if we want to get into heaving insults back and forth instead of having a civil conversation.

Chris Youngblood and Houston Mallette two guys that bama brought in to replace Estrada, Griffen, and Pringle. I wouldn’t consider that a wash production wise…

Holloway has a long ways to go in development

Ugonna terrible 5 from Kentucky

The freshman class always are unknowns

Do you guys watch basketball outside of Tennessee? Honest question

Oh I can go all day in not defending bama lol

Do you guys watch basketball outside of Tennessee? Honest question because this was too easy

Also I didn’t insult anybody unless disagreeing with “group think” is insulting?

Yes. Nothing you said is factual. It’s YOUR opinion so this idea that you refuted my argument “too easily” and are some basketball savant is questionable at best.

Youngblood was fantastic for USF this year in his time there and Holloway has immense talent that may or may not be realized but I trust Oats a hell of a lot more to tap that potential than Bruce “Run the Offense through KD Johnson” Pearl.

Much of my opinion on Alabama is predicated on the idea that Sears is returning, which looks very likely, so I’m not sure how you can sit here and think a team that returns Nelson and Wrightsell with a 2nd/3rd Team All-American is “laughable”.

If Sears doesn’t return and Onyenso’s crystal ball is wrong, I’ll change my mind. But right now it’s obvious Alabama will be the favorite to win the SEC, like I said in my original post, and I am awaiting on a sound counter argument as to who is the real favorite if not them. I don’t think you have one.

As an aside: If Sears projects to get drafted, he should go. He had a fantastic year and the odds of improving on it are low. His biggest weakness is his height. He’s not going to grow by returning, and he just gets a year older.

I don’t know what he’ll do, but it seems to me that leaving is his smartest option. Nelson was smart to come back. Otherwise he’d be playing overseas.

Leaving is probably the smartest option, but The Athletic’s Sam Vecenie didn’t have him mocked to be drafted in late February. He is older and shorter and probably could get really good NIL to return for one final year before trying to make a team through UDFA next season.

I wouldn’t be surprised either way with his decision. But if he returns it should make Alabama the clear favorite as much as I hate to admit it.

“Run the offense through KD Johnson” do you get your talking points from bama fans 😂😂

Mallete and Youngblood are good transfers but they still lost a good portion of their production from Pringle, Estrada, and Griffin who all transferred to good schools in their own right. Like I said it’s a wash barely.

You can have whatever opinion you want, just don’t take it personal I don’t see it that way

The KD Johnson thing was clearly a joke.

And I like how you add in “don’t take it personal” when your first comment in this back and forth was basically calling me an idiot by saying I know nothing about basketball.
