2024 Transfer Portal Thread

I agree. Obviously I don’t have insight into what was said to him in the room, but I know he’s stayed engaged as they shape up who is returning. They’re pitching him everyone this dream team/FF historic NC opportunity angle. I think the case being made that he can be a specialist this year, and a lead piece next year. I would’ve loved to have had his shot, but I’d choose Igor over him if forced.

Hope they get a really talented big or they will be meh. Big Bacot was one of the big reasons for the success.

Christian Anderson would likely play this season. Kid is super talented. Good to hear that we feel good about him
Maybe, but I think a year with Garrett & Co in the weight room will help a ton... And being mentored and pushed by Zeigler every day will develop him a ton. I think "if" we get Lanier - Christian might redshirt candidate to fully prepare...
PG 6'0" Christian
SG 6'4" Boswell
SF 6'5ish+ Cam Carr
Post - Okpara, Cade, Estrella, DeWayne

~This would be exciting base for the future.
They are recruiting with plans on retaining all of these younger guys and I love the approach.

Sorry I got carried away w my opinions. I just think the backup pg minutes would be taken care of by a mix of (Gainey, Shack + Lanier if we get him)

*Reason I think that is due to how much depth we have and we would have a consistent rotation of more than 8-9 guys

My opinion of rotation with Christian, Mabor, Lanier + Igor:

Zeigler
Lanier • Gainey
Mashack • Carr
Igor • Dubar
Okpara • Estrella
----
10th-11th
Phillips • Boswell

12th-13th
Christian • Mabor

9 man rotation minute predictions • 200 total
(opinion obviously which mine doesn't matter)

PG Zakai Zeigler - 31 min

G Chaz Lanier - 26 min

G Jahmai Mashack - 27 min

F Igor Milicic Jr - 22 min

C Felix Okpara - 21 min

Darlinstone Dubar - 23 min

Jordan Gainey - 19 min

JP Estrella - 16 min

Cameron Carr - 15 min

Agreed, personally of the main 4-5 names we seem the most involved with he's my favorite overall.

1. Size, 6'10" 225lbs
2. Has played better competition (first year in ACC, then 2 years with Charlotte playing the Conference USA and then American)
3. Development, every year he's played more minutes and each year he's improved in every area. His FG% has gone up every year, his 3 pt % has gone up, his FT % and he's doubled his rebounding, assists, blocks and nearly points per game each year.
4. Versatility, watching how well he moves and handles the ball I think he's got a lot of Durant in him could see him being a guy that can take bigs to the rim with his speed and bully guards inside or shoot over them with his size/length
5. He rebounds, he blocks shots, and he shoots well. A guy with his size and length that is already proven to be good at all levels of the game

And even if those guys aren’t ready this coming season

PG: Transfer / Anderson 15ish minutes as a Soph
SG: Transfer / Boswell 15ish minutes as a soph
SF: Carr will be the main guy, hopefully. If not he can split time as well.
PF: Prob just get some transfers for this spot
C: Okpara and JP the same as this upcoming season. Hopefully some more time or elsewhere we may eventually lose him.

So you can still develop these guys their Soph years as well. Try to get their feet wet this year. See if you can get them 12-15 minutes a game their Soph year, then finally go from there

Yessir, and I think we end up getting 4 class of 2025 recruits... Some versatile guys too... I think Carr + Estrella will be the guys that year but if we land a couple of these guys like Shon Abaev, Sadiq White, Amari Evans, Darius Adams we would be great imo

I think Cade Phillips can play the 4 position as a high energy rim runner... Plus JP Estrella is versatile offensively and can play the 4 or 5 - watching his workouts with his elite trainer the last year plus has me hype about his ability... Estrella told me in our interview last year that he's most like Kristaps Porzingis - that's who he has been compared to the most

I wish he was more Kevin Mchale than Porzingis though.

Hey yeah! The staff most likely is working with him a lot on that. I'm sure he will operate on the block often.
If that's what he develops and focuses on than that's great bc Estrella already has a smooth outside + mid-range as a capable ballhandler. I've seen it. Pretty exciting that he has so much versatility to be able to play various roles on the court.

If anyone gives us 1.3 points per post up (Porzingis's numbers from this year) we should be ecstatic.
if they were true/traditional postups I would be too. I've watched every single Celtics game this year and so has my son. Neither of us can figure out how what he does qualifies as "posting up". We were both shocked when we heard his postup numbers. But hey, whatever. I prefer old school type of postups in the low block like you got with Mchale and you still see guys like Embiid and Anthony Davis doing. They both have nice face up games like Mchale had but they go into the low blocks too.

Really stinks we missed out on Tyson. I think he will be better than any transfer we will add this offseason. Shot over 40% from 3 for multiple seasons. Would have been a huge addition.

I have never seen this before in my entire life! SC batter hits it over the wall with 2 men on base. 3-0 SC, right? No, batter is called out because he passed his teammate still standing on first base while admiring his HR. So, score is 2-0 SC vs. KY. Really dumb.

Looks like SC players have been studying up on Misery baserunning strategy from our weekend series. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Adam Duvall did that a couple of years ago in a Braves game

Nothing new here, but just to declutter and restate:

Tyson to UNC seems inevitable. There’s some friction around how Davis returning/not returning changes the equation, but I don’t see any outcome being likely besides him announcing today/tomorrow to UNC.

Igor is committed to us. I’ve seen people say there are various challenges, ultimatums etc. That doesn’t hold water with anything I’ve heard. He has a student visa and the school is the sponsor. Changing that status take some steps as do some NIL workarounds. It’ll be done soon.

Lanier is very tight with our staff and I’d be surprised if anyone challenges us. I don’t think Maryland is really going to steal him when it’s said and done. I could be wrong. The biggest frustration is that he has gotten some draft grades that are tempting and some people around him have financial incentives to encourage him to ride out the process. Obviously I was glad to see him in the portal with a no contact tag, but that won’t change the timelines or necessarily stop people from working him. Him coming here is much better than a coin flip. It’s the most likely outcome. I just don’t think we like the pace and that could make it difficult.

Christian Anderson is a really interesting prospect, and I’ll be interested to see if that goes smoothly. That one is a bit of a happy accident, but some of our best recruits have been unexpected/opportunistic situations we leapt on. We’ll see. Staff seems pretty giddy about him as of Friday.

We have a few other next wave prospects, but I think staff is being very cautious given the need to stabilize certain key players and positions.

I thought on the NCAAT broadcast that Lurch(Edey) couldn’t make NIL $s because he was here on student visa so I’m confused by your Igor and NIL/Visa comment?
