I have heard Lanier’s name longer and more often than any portal (or portal to be) target. He is discussed as the top priority in NIL and team need. I think the perception is that the odds are much greater that he drops out of the draft than stays in. It’s also an active ongoing conversation. We won’t be surprised when he decides. We’ll know well in advance. I absolutely agree that neither Igor nor Tyson will change our pursuit or his interest. He is a really important piece of the puzzle.Yea, list is usually out around first week of May, so you’re talking probably 2 weeks or so.
Glad to hear that. Think another scoring guard is a huge need regardless and he fills it.I have heard Lanier’s name longer and more often than any portal (or portal to be) target. Agree with this take.Fair, but Mashack is more than capable starting @ the 3 while ZZ & Lanier run the primary guard positions... Lanier is a proven shot creator and can help Zeigler the way Vescovi had done... Tyson can't provide us what Lanier can. And Gainey coming off the bench to relieve ZZ & Lanier. I could see that working out... I honestly hope we get Lanier personally he is much more of an overall go-to guy who fills Vescovis absence...
And we all know Mashack can run positions 2-4 while Dubar gets 3-4 run while Cam Carr can play 2-3 but also potential help at the 4 with his 7'1" wingspan if he gets in on small ball lineups...... We are looking at a position-less team. I see far too many downplaying Boswell's potential at finding pt - I just go back to ZZ committing & my first thought was "redshirt." And we know Bishop can play D so we never know what can happen there....
If we can get 6'10" Igor + 6'4" Chaz Lanier & obviously tomorrows BM of 6'11" Felix Okpara - I don't care who else we get... That's a loaded squad...
If we get Tyson and Not Lanier - we have less ball-handlers and shot creators ...imo ...
therefore Igor - Okpara + Lanier my 3 wants without a doubt
Agree with this take.
I think to put it simply, if we get Igor and Felix we’ve got more than enough 3’s, 4’s and 5’s on the roster to play off the ball, and not enough guards who can score and play with the ball in their hands.
As of right now we’ve really only got 2 guards on the team who can score. ZZ and Gainey, and I’d like to think of Gainey as more of a bench player and ZZ as more of a facilitator. A combo guard who can score and play with the ball in his hands is an absolute must in the portal imo.
Oh I agree and that’s why I said you take both. I wouldn’t complain. Just saying it would be really crowded at the 3 and 4 positions imo so ultimately I’d be shocked if Tyson elected to come here if Igor jumps in first.Deep bench? Versatile lineups? Tons of shooters? Sounds like a great problem to have.
If Carr doesn’t play then he transfers.PG: ZZ 30 / Lanier 5 / Gainey 5
SG: Lanier 20 / Tyson 10 / Gainey 5 / Mashack 5

PF: Igor 20 / Dubar 15 / Mashack 5
C: Okpara 25 / JP 10 / Igor 5

Cade and Carr play in blowouts, idk.

Did I math right?
I don’t think Cade, Mabar or Boswell likely see a consistent role, so down to 10 players. I think Gainey, especially if he doesn’t show a more consistent shot, won’t sniff anywhere close to 20+ minutes if you add guy like Lanier, Tyson, Dubar & Milicic if they shoot how they’ve shot in recent years.Oh I agree and that’s why I said you take both. Hypothetical lineup by average minutes played at each position…
1: ZZ 32, Gainey 8
2: Lanier 23, Gainey 12, Mashack 5
3: Mashack 18, Carr 16, Dubar 6
4: Igor 20, Dubar 15, Phillips 5
5: Felix 20, Estrella 20
Total minutes:
ZZ 32
Lanier 23
Mashack 23
Gainey 20
Carr 16
Dubar 21
Igor 20
Phillips 5
Felix 20
Estrella 20
How do you fit Tyson into that lineup? There’s only 200 minutes to go around lol

Zeigler 30/Gainey 10
Lanier 20/Mashack 20
Tyson 25/Carr 15
Milicic 20/Dubar 20
Okpara 20/Estrella 20
That’s a simplistic view, but if you had those 10 I see Zeigler getting probably 34mpg, so take that from 200, that’s 166 remaining. Someone will be odd man out, whether that’s Gainey, or Carr, or Mashack or someone else, who knows, but that’s 8 people for 166 minutes, essentially 21mpg. If you’re winning it’s not an issue, if you aren’t winning then it becomes an issue.
With that said, and as I’ve said, too many moving parts and voices in these kids ears for me to think we go 4/4 to close. However as we’ve all laid out, if you can go 3/4 really with any combo you’re sitting in a really good spot for next year.
I don’t expect Gainey to see anywhere near 20 minutes a game. His minutes may decrease. Probably 10-15. Carr probably 10-15 too, but I expect one of those two to separate themselves by seasons end with the other seeing more like 8-10. We can also give a few minutes to Lanier at PG to spell ZZ. Estrella is prob more like 15-18. Phillips may not play much at all.Oh I agree and that’s why I said you take both. I wouldn’t complain. Just saying it would be really crowded at the 3 and 4 positions imo so ultimately I’d be shocked if Tyson elected to come here if Igor jumps in first.

It does usually take him 2-3 years to do it though. Hopefully he gives us something this year and then takes a leap for his senior year. It's not a comparison, it's just stating a fact. Barnes is proven to be able to develop bigs that are raw talent guys he can do the same for Felix who is still young.
I don’t think Boswell will redshirt. That will just increase his odds of transferring out when he canPG: ZZ 30 / Lanier 5 / Gainey 5
