2024 Transfer Portal

I think we should take note that CKC is selling a new system, one that seems to be the direction basketball is moving. Some recruits might be set in their ways (😬😬😬😬) and many coaches, recruiters set in their ways, too. CKC wants people who believe in her system and in moving the game forward.

Initially, I wanted an old proven fart coach because that’s known and safe. I get it now. I’m down with the new.

It's like CKC cut her nose off in spite of her face. Hopefully , for our and her sake it works. My thinking is this is CKC only shot at a blue blood program and she's backed her self in a corner to start the job.
I don’t think so, Her and DW have a plan I think surely

From Vol Report:

It might be tough to tell with how short her Marshall tenure was, but what was her recruiting like (HS/Portal)?

McLaughlin: "What is crazy is that Kim's two best players this year were former D2 players. The team's third best player was a transfer from Mississippi State. Caldwell did not sign a single high school player during the signing period in November and the buzz around the program was that she was planning on hitting the transfer portal very hard to shore up her 2024 roster. I would expect much of the same at UT."
She wasn’t at Marshall long enough for one complete recruiting cycle. So, not good evidence of her recruiting abilities.

All teams have their own system, playing Aau ball u play in different systems all the time, so players will have experience, I’ve played on teams where we played fast and pressed all the time and other teams where we slowed it down, I don’t think it’s a big issue, now it’s on the players if they want to play that way or not.

I agree. I think her system is controlled chaos. People in here are saying her brand of bb won’t cut it in the SEC. I wanna see it in action with our players…a scrimmage.

I keep thinking there has to be a plan. I’m absolutely fine with letting Sam go if we have other experienced recruiters and staff in play. However, I’m really hoping it doesn’t mean we are getting the Marshall gang back together here.

But the NIL is magically fixed now. We should be able to get elite players now. I'm cheering for CKC, but she sure made her job Much , Much harder.

If anyone made this a tough job it was Kellie and Jon Harper and their failures over the last 4 seasons to establish any kind of consistent recruiting at the high school level.

If the portal had not become a thing I shudder to think where we’d be at this point.

Jackson did not recruit Jewel. Multiple articles talk about how Jewel took Kellie’s call because Jewel’s dad pointed out to her how Kellie developed Jordan Horston.

Jackson and Spear played USA basketball together and formed a good bond. I watched Rickea recruit her heavily. I don’t think they even pick up that phone to talk to Kellie if not for Rickea.

Kea knew if she didn’t find another Robin to her Batman her last season was about to get ugly. She’d been through some things already. Rickea wasn’t dumb, no was she Kellie’s biggest fan.

I’m just not understanding what I’m reading at this moment. First, you are wrong about Coach Caldwell ā€œshotā€ at a blue blood program. She was on the rise and right now after just a week she’s the most intriguing coach in the WBB landscape. And despite your opinion, she has spoken openly about having other opportunities to pursue jobs but ā€œdeclinedā€ because she wanted to be at a place where there were high expectations.

There is no need to speculate. Coach Caldwell is building a program and has support from the athletic administration to establish her foundation from week 1 to week 2. At this point, it’s not the new coach but some fans that are completely clueless about the process and are making comments that make no sense at all.

Everyone is suddenly talking about relationships when all we heard for 3 years is that we couldn’t buy recruits and none of them cared about relationships anymore.

So which is it?

And based on today it sounds like the ā€œrelationshipā€ Brooks and her uncle were going on about was really just ā€œhow much money can we squeeze out of a desperate program.ā€
Bashing the couple of high level recruits we led for or had committed isn’t very smart. In some cases, it’s likely a new staff will effort to recruit them again. It’s also not unreasonable for top recruits to evaluate NIL whether that makes fans happy or not.

I've been hard on Kellie, but the fact is she averaged almost 22 wins a season in a very hard job. Her job performance at UT would have been just fine for all but a few programs, but, unfortunately for her, TN is one of those few.

I'm not ready to break out the worry beads for CKC just yet. I didn't expect her to keep any of the old assistants since that's not particularly common, and her system is very different. She's the coach, she knows what kind of player she needs and who she wants to coach 'em, and it's her job on the line. Next year will be interesting.

So now 22 wins is good? Yikes.

Let’s just lower that bar, I thought it was on the floor already but apparently we can go lower.

Zaay Green and Saylor Poffenbarger on one team will be the death of Christy Curry if she makes it happen lol.

Some of these coaches need to be careful. Like Coach Yo said, and I agree, it’s about fit not just stats and numbers.

Can’t just talent grab… someone’s stats gonna plummet then the teams culture

Looks like that is not going to happen. We'll now be looking to see what the roster looks like for next season. The current roster would finish about in the middle of the SEC no matter who is coaching.

Looks like what? How do we know? These former recruits that decommitted were rarely even part of the discussion for two years as commits when the discussion about HS recruiting was the main topic on this forum. If either or both players visited again and were receptive to being recruited by the new staff that is good. If not, I’ve seen a player ranked as #2 in her respective class like the posts of Coach Caldwell on Twitter that are receiving 100k+, 300k+, and 800k+ views with 1k-5k+ likes. The fanatics want this to fail. When it does not fail, they will find something else to complain about.

Some of you just can’t do what a fanbase does and that’s be supportive no matter what decision is made when it does not fit your agenda.

Mr Caldwell you've been heard. Please tell you wife I said GBO!! FYI, you don't know Shat, if she fails miserably here, with all our resources, what blue blood will hire her? I'll hand up and lusten.
