The first time I ever played Legendary Wings was on a really old, slow, and horribly sounding NES emulator in 1997. 😂 It’s hilarious remembering playing NES emulators on Windows 3.1.

I don’t think I have ever played Roadrunner on the SNES. I owned Roadrunner for the NES. It was an unlicensed Tengen game. It was very arcade style, looping levels with added difficulty and such.

I beat Shadowgate for the first time ever yesterday. I had lots of fun with it. A friend said I should try Deja Vu next. It’s similar, but more like a film noir instead of a dungeon crawler.

I broke out the old NES mini and played the original Zelda, I blew through the game and was surprised how much stuff I remebered. I decided to play the second quest and oh my is it hard. I never beat it as a kid, but I don't remember struggling as much as I am now

I’ve never beaten the 2nd quest. Actually, I’ve never even gotten that far into it. Just not really been interested.

This is the first emulator I ever played, back in 1997. My mind was so completely blown that you could play NES games on a computer, that I didn't even realize how terrible the sound was. This is absolutely hilarious, but an absolute gem of retro gaming history. It's truly awesome thinking about the amazing break-throughs of technology the internet was giving us every day back in the late 90s.

I thought we could use a thread discussing your favorite retro games. So what are some retro games that you enjoyed or still enjoy today? Look forward to trying out some of the responses.

For those who need a sumation of ancient gaming history.

I’m starting a playthrough of Final Fantasy III on Super Nintendo (truly FF6). I’ve been saying for years I want to play this one. Now I’m finally going to commit to it.

I grew up on Nintendo and Super Nintendo. I rented a game almost every weekend from "Showtime Video" and "Top Gun Video," the local rental stores in Alcoa/Maryville. I believe the Showtime is now an Advance Auto Parts and the Top Gun Video is part of a church youth center or something...anyway...

I thought we could use a thread discussing your favorite retro games. My two favorite NES games are probably Mike Tyson's Punch-Out!! and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. I played both of those games constantly, and it took me years to finally beat both of them. Remember, there were no save states back then. You had 3 lives, then game over. Those were the days when gaming really helped you develop perseverance.

I try to beat a "new" retro game every once in a while. I recently conquered Ninja Turtles on NES for the first time ever, along with Contra, and Ghosts n' Goblins. I'm looking to try some others that I've never defeated. I'm leaning towards Ninja Gaiden 2 and 3.

So what are some retro games that you enjoyed or still enjoy today? Look forward to trying out some of the responses.
I found these games at my parents and I had the controllers and gun at my house. I've got ROB the robot, too. 20260418_104904.jpg
I'm still looking for the NES (it's somewhere in my house) and about 25-30 more games (nobody knows).

The NES games I remember enjoying and want to locate/play again the most....

Bionic Commando (my favorite NES game)
Contra
RC Pro-am
Excite Bike
Blades of Steel
Super Mario 1, 2 and 3
Castlevania 1 and 2
Metroid
Mega Man 2 and 3
Duck Tales
Both Zelda games
NES Ice Hockey
Mike Tyson Punch out
Kirby's Adventure

Other games I remember owning:
Mario Bros
Ninja Gaiden
Kid Icarus
Tecmo Bowl
Pro Wrestling
Skate or Die
Top Gun
Tetris
Dr Mario
Hogan's Alley

I hope they're still at my parents or aunt's house. I had a Sega Genesis when I moved out and within a year or 2, I bought a Playstation. I didn't take the NES with me. I know my younger sister took it with her when she got married and who knows what happened to the games after that. I've had this "quest" going for months... trying to recover as many games as possible. I keep getting "Thank you, Mario. But your games are in another castle".

That’s awesome! I am familiar with all of those games except Bionic Commando. I only recently learned how to beat Contra and Ninja Gaiden. I need to beat Ninja Gaiden 2 next.

Bionic Commando was a hard game but I thoroughly enjoyed it. It felt different from everything else NES had out back then. Instead of jumping, you had a bionic grappling arm that you moved around the levels with, so it felt as much like a puzzle game as it did a platform shooter. The levels were stacked with traps/enemies/obstacles and I remember dying.... a lot. It was one of the most satisfying games I ever beat. If you've never played it, it's worth picking up.

I wasn't crazy about Ninja Gaiden and didn't spend a lot of time on it. It wasn't bad, I just didn't get into it.

Contra is the NES non sport game that I played the most co-op. Me and my cousins would pick teams and see which team could beat the game the fastest. The spread gun was always a crowd favorite.
^^vv<><>ba start. 😏
