No turn. 09 used the word serviceable, and you agreed. Not advocating Marshall players should come here at all. Though 09 used those 3 to somehow again criticize Kellie, it wasn’t even about that. Maybe sentimental, but I thought so highly of those three particular players, just had to say so.

I don't think we are disagreeing. "Serviceable" was only used in reference to Franklin, who unfortunately was hobbled by her knee injury and never had much impact against bigger teams or SEC competition.

But again, my point is not about specific LVs for whom fans form emotional attachments but a general recruiting principle. It is like saying, well since Dalton Knecht turned out to be great, Barnes should only look at players who began their careers at junior colleges. If you scour long and hard enough at that level, you will find a few decent (and maybe once every five to ten years the rare very good player, (ala Shannon Bobbitt for the LVs) but you won't build an elite team that way.

I'd take her in a minute to play at shooting guard. She can also play D (Clarke is an exception). She would make many other players better just by being here. Her attitude might be a problem, but I'm sure she will be humble after what happened at LSU. She is also a winner! She was won the U19 3-on-3 basketball World Championship; she is definitely what we need. We need players with a bit of brashness and cockiness.

I think Kim Caldwell will know who to bring in and when to stay her hand. Who to develop and who to help find placement elsewhere. It's a big part of her job to evaluate talent and to bring in assistants who can do the same. I see no reason to believe that she's going to go after the wrong players.

It’s extremely important for continuity that Joy and Sam are retained for the time being. Although her daughter is yearssss away from college, this speaks volumes on how important assistant coach relationships are. I’ll feel much better if these 2 are still here.

I’ll always remember Joy waiving Rickea to pressure the ball, and Kellie seeming to move her back! IYKYK! keep them both!

If White wants to support CKC, he delivers the resources to a hire a new team of great assistants, maybe a kind of experienced horse whisperer like Al Brown. There is a lot of talent out there with recruiting connections. Clean slate, new beginnings, transformational change, let's see, reboot to greatness, change the oil and put in a new air filter, purge and splurge, eh, maybe I better stop ...........

No reason to doubt the commitment. It's mostly other posters here (no offense to them) that I see stubbornly arguing against your sensical point, either on grounds of sentimentality or unfounded fears. If there is resistance, it won't be from the AD. This is a place where we can massively upgrade. Plus, CKC needs staff accountable to her. I can't imagine a situation where a coach doesn't have her own selected staff. It's an essential part of her job. It's the way she implements and teaches, recruits high schools and the portal and molds her locker room and game day. If assistants are forced upon her, she's a head coach in-name-only. And she's already under the weight of the old ways.

Then there is 2018 Zaay Green in the portal a top 25 player in 2018

So 21 players ranked as top 50 in their class are in the portal. There are another 50 that have better stats than these players that were not in the top 50 in the portal. Enough talent is in the portal to move you way up quickly just have to get the right ones for your team.

The highest ranked player in the portal from a Hoopgurlz class is Gardiner who was ranked number 6 in the 2022 class.

JMO the portal is better than any high school rankings because you can see what the player has already done and how they game fits with your team. If we can get five of the top 80 in the portal were going to have a really good team as far as potential talent.

Take your opinion back to Storrs. Keeping Sam is a very smart move. It gets you back in with Nyla, Finley, and a whole helluva lot more '25 and beyond recruits. Without that she starts out at a disadvantage. She's already at a disadvantage, why complicate it more.

If you are really happy with the recruiting results of Coach Sam, so be it. She has done a wonderful job so far. Just because she may have relationships with '25 recruits, it doesn't mean they are good relationships. Cut the cord man.

Again, not sure why people think HVL would even consider UT for her last season when one of her stated goals of going to LSU was to win a national championship. Even the LV fans wearing the most orange colored glasses don't expect us to win the national championship next year.

Sam brought in plenty of recruits and we were in several recruits top 5, but for some reason whether it be NIL money or something else, the recruits went elsewhere. I’m not saying everything was perfect but Sam definitely did her job by getting them there. And again, I’m not saying you absolutely have to keep her, but they better have a well connected coach in the hand if they let her go. These are recruiting waters that Marshall wasn’t in, so you need someone that has at least some prior relationship or work done with the types of recruits we need.

Where are these recruits you are talking about? I mean this team was so bad that they literally only had 2 players worth a crap with Jewell and Rickea. The rest would be hard pressed to be starters on a good WBB team that would be fighting for a Natty. So to me that means she isn’t doing the job she was paid to do. Also for those that keep bringing up NIL and Danny White. Danny White is not in charge of NIL, per rules that would be illegal for him to be in charge of the funding. The school itself isn’t supposed to be involved in that, so if our NIL isn’t where it’s supposed to be for the LV that would be an issue with the fans themselves. So again I will take what some parents have told me about the way in which TN LV basketball was lazy in their recruiting. That they didn’t spend the time making the recruits feel special and spending the time recruiting as they should have been.

Also in the end LV basketball was a failing company. When a company fails you don’t fire just the CEO, you fire the CFO and the COO. To bring back or retain in this case the COO would be insane, especially since the COO wasn’t doing their job bringing in the best and brightest and instead the team was terribly put together which is what led to the failing.

People will think this sounds crazy but I could see Vandy being the other SEC school she’s looking at. Shae played enough cupcakes to make things look better around Nashville last season. I expect them to get 1-2 really quality players form the portal.

Blakes choosing Vandy over some really good schools shows they can recruit.

We do not have 3 weeks left to compete our roster. We have 3 weeks for players to enter the portal still.

Quite a few players did not make final decisions for a month or two after entering the portal.

If our roster doesn’t look a lot different by June 1 I’ll start to worry but at this point it’s a waiting game.

Also, do we want Danny making the hire as opposed to letting CKC decide if she either wants to keep Sam as she gains her footing in a P5 or bring on her Marshall staff? I would also think concerns might be warranted about the AD dictating her staff.

I think this is a big misunderstanding. Bringing in recruits means that the players sign and enroll. Not that they visit.
