Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

Good to hear from you bud. Always. Hope things get a little easier for yall very soon. You sound like a great husband.

Thank you. I have gained a lot of respect for care givers, and I'm working hard on patience. The mini "vacation" the last couple of days has been helpful.

Think I've mentioned the wife is a nurse and decided to join the Navy Reserve years ago. She was on active duty for three years and would have been more if the Army hadn't nixed her last assignment. She had orders to the Army hospital in Germany where all the wounded from the ME went, but the Army said no more high ranking Navy nurses - and she was a Captain at the time. Anyway I figured out the Navy officer ranks (except the weird Admiral stuff) as she progressed - and how they related to Army and AF ranks - those as an AF brat and Army vet I understood. The Navy enlisted ranks are like a black hole; I have no idea how anybody understands that nonsense. Navy = 200 years of tradition, unimpeded by progress.

Never really post about food...but I noticed at my favorite mexican place today they had 1 of my favorite desserts. Flan. Havent even seen one in years. Gonna try this out later, hope its as good as my wife's aunt makes it ! Unfortunately i cant even finish these huge chicken nachos i always get so that will have to be later. Theyre $15 for about 2lbs of food...wish i could just get a half order for $7.50 because i have never even come close to finishing them lol. Anyway heres a pic of that flan...

I've heard of flan but never tried it ... have to do that someday. The picture looks a little like chess pie without the crust - chess pie is a favorite.

I raced a kid last year for 50 yards freestyle.
Now I’m still in good shape……I run 5 miles 3 times a week …..if we were racing 100 yards I might have died.

Swimming is a different beast. I don’t think most people know that

I run every day 20 minutes or do stairs 20 minutes after weights. I would die if I swam laps for 20 minutes straight freestyle. Swim is whole other level.

I was a lifeguard the summers when i was 14 and 15. Was never on the swim team but got pretty good at freestyle and breast. No way i could do it for 5mins straight now I would surely die. Pretty sure it really does use every single muscle in your body to varying extents.

Just lay in a good rhythm and freestyle is manageable. Doing breast for 5 minutes would kill me now. I was a lifeguard at the student aquatic center my freshman year and watched all their workouts. Damn they were all fast.
