In general, UT alums seem to make great effort to not be homers. Draya, Maddie Shipman, Tamika Catchings, Chris Burke and Courtney Lyle are very impartial. Dane Bradshaw is a little more homerish. And then there's Finebaum-- the anti-homer.
If Reggie Bush had to forfeit his Heisman, shouldn't Finebaum have to forfeit his degree?

Ryan McGee too. if you had a scale that was Ron Slay on one end, and Finebaum on the other....i'd put McGee just past the mark leaning finebaum. Gene Wojciechowski....i'd have him dead on the middle. i never knew he was an alum until he got called out one day on Game Day several years ago.....

But give me Candace and Ron all day..... :)

I don't recall a UT basketball team whose fortunes depended so heavily on one player. Maybe the early-80s teams with Dale Ellis. The Allan Houston teams weren't good enough to matter. I wasn't around for the Ernie and Bernie teams.

If Knecht has a mediocre game, the Vols are toast against most good teams. If he strings together 6 great games -- which he's done this year -- UT has a good a chance as anybody to win it all. There doesn't seem to be any middle ground. Nobody else has proven they can carry this team. They are all complimentary pieces to him.
i think the exact opposite, this team's fate rests on EVERYONE not named DK. they're all complimentary pieces. i don't think we have an alpha, really, on this team. as good as DK is, he's not that "that guy" in terms of being a leader, and a rally point. and i'm not trying to knock us here. i'll say this, DK is the only one that seems to want the ball when it matters. so i'll acknowledge that for sure.

we've seen this team look like it can beat anybody you put in front of them. but that's completely dependent on JJJ, ZZ, SV, Aidoo contributing offensively. getting some production off the bench from Gainey, Mashack, awaka etc. and that doesn't have to be points. though they'll certainly be taken. my biggest concern about this team all year has been lack of consistency offensively. fortunatley, it's only bit them a few times. but the possibility of it is always there.....and it bit us in the SEC T and against UK for the majority of that game.

whatever it is they have to do to avoid that, and imo, i think that's getting Aidoo involved in the paint early to draw the defense in, they need to do it. passing the ball around the perimeter hoping a cutter finally beats someone isn't gonna cut it. we need JJJ, DK, Mashack, Gainey, Vescovi to be able to drive the ball and put the ball in the bucket. do that a few times, it really opens up the perimeter game and the kick out jumpers become more of a rhythm shot, than a forced shot. it also helps offensive rebounding, which is important. and it will help our defense a lot.

so in order of importance, imo:
1. get Aidoo involved
2. avoid turnovers
3. make free throws

I guess it's possible he's banged up and we don't know, but my guess is that it is mostly psychological with him. A significant chunk of his minutes have been taken away, and as a result of that he's gone from attempting 10.2 FGs/game to 5.4. I think his confidence is gone.
Still...he cannot shoot worth 💩 anymore, he has always been a pretty good shooter. That is a skill that you either have or not...you can get better somewhat better with a ton of practice, but it is an innate talent that you either have the hand-eye to do or not.

I have never in my life witnessed..not even in rec league or pick up ball..a talented shooter completely lose the talent like what was a known quantity in Vescovi has...everybody has a slump lasting for a bit, but he has absolutely lost it for the whole year, he has only had a small handful of games that he shot well...and it is freaking weird and sad.

It is the most Tennessee thing ever...if he were to regain his shot and Knecht keeps doing Knecht things...we would he a dominant team, it would be extremely hard to stop us in this tourney...assuming we remember to play suffocating defense and Aidoo and Awaka slow down on getting punked by big physical dudes.

And I appreciate our alums keeping it professional. They can be fans on the inside, but I prefer unbiased analysis.

But Saban will still be manipulating Sankey and NCAA daily and weekly.

Did I get that correct.
Smartass...keep deluding yourself that we've been playing on an even field...willingly blind ostriches like you are why they will always get away with it.

I gave up on that fantasy decades ago...I once was just like you.

I’m currently at the FloBama game rooting for a meteor strike. At least I got to see sad Kentucky fans in person.
Assuming you saw the broken leg injury? Basically what bru did. Read somewhere the brea could be heard on tv. Horrifying.

Edit: wrong game.

I’m still catching up on the weekend. Screw bama.

Meh. I prefer analysis/on-air commentary/talking head bias that benefits Tennessee. Or at least doesn't **** all over the university and its athletic programs, which seems to be the norm these days.

Wojciechowski once called Finebaum out. Talked about how Finebaum, while at UT, was banned from traveling with the basketball team because of all the negative stuff he had wrote about them; also talked about how Finebaum had even pissed Pat Summitt off while writing for the Beacon.
