I never coached baseball on the HS level but in the last several years saw several kids just get mentally burned out from travel ball, extra lessons, school ball, etc. My suggestion would be to take some time off or transition for awhile to more low-key settings. At 13 he has plenty of time to build a resume if playing beyond HS is a goal, at 13 also burnout can be a very real possibility. Sorry if I am overstepping.
how old but baseball is a game of failure and how you respond to that is what matters more than the results. Babe Ruth was one if not the best players to ever play the game at a high level and he struck out more than any other player in history. It is ok to fail but not ok to let failure win. Just keep grinding and remember to make it fun. Baseball is fun.
I’ll take a step further… if we beat Creighton in the SS anything short of the final 4 is a failure. No reason to lose in the first 2 rounds. Creighton will be a tough game. Winner of that game makes the final 4 IMO
