My sports weekend was worse…. I’m in New York City….. My son was playing on a brand new travel baseball team…. He had a complete meltdown committing three errors…… not hitting a single ball except a weak pop up…. Today he wouldn’t even swing the bat in two plate appearances… He fell down taken a ball and had his teammates yelling at him to swing. Is it ok if I miss all of his games? LOL I have to figure out how to help him with the mental sifr(definitely not my strong suit) He is one of the more talented kids on the team skill wise but he can’t be afraid to play.
I never coached baseball on the HS level but in the last several years saw several kids just get mentally burned out from travel ball, extra lessons, school ball, etc. My suggestion would be to take some time off or transition for awhile to more low-key settings. At 13 he has plenty of time to build a resume if playing beyond HS is a goal, at 13 also burnout can be a very real possibility. Sorry if I am overstepping.

Get him out on the field and work with him.hes in a confidence slump…remind him that even the greatest hitters go through slumps but they figure it out by continuing to swing the bat…
